I'm surprised no one has answered your question. I too see it as being for a 1-cyl car or boat motor. This Ad shows both that you have.
If you have searched the network you probably know as much as most of us. Much refers to marine motor use.

Those are both Atwater Kent ignition coils.
Atwater Kent coils were used for a variety of applications including both automotive and marine. The coil Type would match the AK Distributor. Type F distributor to a Type F coil. Type K distributor to a type k coil and so forth. Some were 6V and some 12V. For engine types 2-cyl., 4-cyl., 6-cyl. Atwater Kent developed the “Unisparker” ignition system which used a snapper Arm to “snap” the points closed.
I have a Model T Ford, AK front plate distributor, very similar to a Bosch front plate, I believe mine is a type K-2, which would use a type k-2 coil like shown in the ad Rich posted.
I also have a 2-cyl Type F Atwater Kent Unisparker system on my Zip Cyclecar. The early motorcycle V-twin engines were started on motorcycles by lifting the rear wheel on a stand and pedaling the engine over. When the V-twin engines were used in cyclecars, they were difficult to start with a hand crank because of the magneto. The Unisparker system was the answer to easy starting for cyclecars. Also with the Unisparker the points could never land in the closed position which could drain your dry cell ignition batteries if the switch was left in the on position.
AK coils are common today and i’ve been told they never go bad, i’ve also been warned a AK coil can throw out a 2” Long spark, so not to be taken lightly when messing around with one.
