The first one is a Hupmobile I believe.
The second looks like an International high wheeler or maybe a Sears.
When did I do that?

Wonderful photos. Thank you Herb !!

Rich, any idea of the year of Hupmobile ?
I love the high-wheelers. So easy to attach a tongue or shafts and hitch up a horse, totally disguising the embarrassment of a failed "motor carriage".

I see a 1909 model 20 that looks like it. It could be later.
When did I do that?

The first one is certainly a Hupmobile. I think probably a 1910. 1909 had a shorter radiator neck, and if I recall correctly, were nearly all the open speedster looking model. 1910 had slightly taller radiator necks, and offered a couple open and closed torpedo like models. 1911 and '12 model 20s had a slightly taller yet radiator neck. Late 1912 saw the introduction of the somewhat larger model 32, with a very similar looking radiator and tall neck into 1914.

The second one appears to be a Sears. Upon close examination, one can see the tiller steering on the left hand side. IHC used steering wheels, and were right hand driven. The other detail, very unusual on high wheelers in general, but a characteristic of all Sears models, is the starting crank is in the front of the car! IHC, like most high wheeler automobiles cranked from the side.
The Sears looks to have had some abuse. The right front wheel is not straight. Something in that front axle has been bent.

Wonderful photos!

Also, the Sears appears to be one of the better models as opposed to the more basic model "H" or "J". It has the wider "cushion" tires. It maybe a model "K" which was also painted Brewster green instead of the usual black on the cheaper models. Sears even offered a model "L" which had 36" (if I recall correctly?) pneumatic clincher tires.
I really like the Sears cars!

Thanks Wayne. After looking at some photos I believe you are right on. The 1910 Model K 14HP that Bonhams sold in 2011 has all the same features. The dips in the axles at each end are exactly the same.

I find the Hupp immensely interesting from an aesthetic and traditional point of view. The lines of the sleek and elongated hood and fenders seem to "replace" the visual of a sleek, well-groomed carriage horse, while the body work aft of the windshield replicates a stylish, horse-drawn "Victoria". More, the ten-spoke front wheels (twelve at rear) was a convention of the most elegant carriages of the late horse-drawn period. Thanks, fellows for the details in both cars !!

I too like the overall looks of the Hupp, .... right up to the sky-high mounted
headlights than look like frog eyes. Were one to drop in my lap, original or not,
I'd find a way to lower them, purely for aesthetic reasons. Never understood the
frog eye headlights that some mfr's. of the period insisted on.

Burger, You need to get one of the 1909 model 20 Hupmobiles. Their headlamps are mounted a more standard height. But I don't think they offered this particular body that early. I could be wrong about that?
