Happy Birthday, Dad!

Post by DLodge » Sat Sep 05, 2020 7:18 pm

Today would be my dad's 111th birthday. He was never a Ford guy, but his first car was an early 1930 Plymouth Roadster, which he named Bonnie Jean.

It has that wonderful "old Photo" look doesn't it? It's nice to know who it is.
My Father had a '31 Plymouth Coupe. One night a fuse blew and all the lights went out.
Fun to see this.
Rich
When did I do that?

Thanks, Rich. Somewhere I have a few more pictures of the car. A few years after this, he started dating my mother, who was very much not a convertible person (too windy). Dad told me that when they would go on dates, he would have to borrow his parents' '28 Dodge sedan, which was much more to Mom's liking.

In 1935, he sold Bonnie Jean and bought a new Pontiac. Mom was happier with it.... :D

It says something about him, giving the car a name like Bonnie Jean. Did he name the new Pontiac or was his mind elsewhere?

Did he name the new Pontiac...?
I don't think he ever named another car. He had a Mercury Grand Marquis around the early 70s that he occasionally referred to as "the green dragon," but it wasn't really a name. Just that it was big and green.

I remember reading that it is in the area of cars is where consumer grudges last the longest. I know that he disliked the Pontiac and didn't own another GM product for over 50 years.
