Shipping an engine/transmission across the country-RI to CA
Put this in Off topic as it's not a T engine. I am looking at shipping an engine & transmission unit clear across the country. We are thinking of strapping it to a pallet for the shipment. I have gotten preliminary quotes from $3,000 to $800. Not having done this before, thought I'd ask here about the process, and any advice. The shipping is more than the purchase price!
Thanks guys,

I had one shipped to me by fastenal reasonable pricing because you are using empty space in their trucks. they prefer completely boxing the item not just strapped to a pallet but the pallet is a great starting point for the box. here is the link

I have a similar situation. Spoke to Fasenal Tuesday and they are not shipping between their East and West regions at this time. Wish I had better news, but thought I should pass along the information.

David,
I will keep your information & let you know if I head back out to the west coast. My last two transport trips were coast to coast & back (6800 & 8500 miles) this caused my schedule for the eastern half of the country to back up quite a bit, but I will be in Mass at the end of the month & if I have a car going to the west coast, I could save you some money. I have a large rolling pallet that your pallet can be strapped to & rolled into the front of the enclosed trailer.
God Bless
Bill

Re: Shipping an engine/transmission across the country-RI to CA
Ah, I spent too much time trying to find a relatively inexpensive way to get the engine from RI to me in CA (most quotes were coming in over $1,500) so I decided against the purchase--and then a quote came in for $700 and I was considering it, but by then it was too late! Ah well, back to fixing the house and then Barney! Thanks for all the responses (not all were on the forum)! On with other stuff!!

What year Dodge engine are you looking for? I think the one on Facebook and AACA might be older the 1916, maybe.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Re: Shipping an engine/transmission across the country-RI to CA
Mark,
I really wasn't looking for an engine, but when this one Popped up, it was going to solve a lot of problems at once on my May 1916 DB (engine number 115XXX) including some spare parts for later. My car has a later starter/generator set up and has been out in a field for some 40 years, so I expect to find problems when I dig into it. This engine was stored running (I know "ran when parked"). The cost of shipping it & preparing it for shipping was just too much. Now one out here on the west coast would likely be a different story--might even be a "road trip" for us. BUT! there are more prssing things to get done, like the house, Barney, and now the overhead power line to my shop building has failed, so there is that (and it runs through the forest where I can't really see or get to it, time for a pro (more $$$$). BTW, the one in RI was 118XXX, so would have been a real "drop in replacement).

Re: Shipping an engine/transmission across the country-RI to CA
I have a Dec 1916 DB engine that was used as a stationary power supply, but is a ways from being a running engine. Mine is 163840 which is quite a few numbers newer.

Mark, I will get in touch with you, Portland is a LOT closer, however the engine in RI had a lot of added stuff that made it very enticing.
