Renewing my Model T warranty

Post by otrcman » Fri Jul 09, 2021 9:47 pm

Am I the only one who keeps getting unsolicited phone calls from somebody who warns me that my car warranty is about to expire and I can renew through them ? I'll bet there of lots of us.

This happened again this morning. When I slammed the phone down in my usual courteous manner, my wife asked which of the many special offers it was this time. When I told her it was the one about a car warranty, she suggested that I see if I can renew the warranty on our Model T. It's a Ford, after all. I'll just tell the lady that it's a '12 and let her figure out which century.

Think I'll go for the full boat. Full parts and labor, towing, etc. Wonder how far I can get with scamming the scammer ?

I play this card every time, .... asking the vinyl siding guy how it holds up
to fire, whatever. If you are going to get the calls, whether you like it or not,
might as well have some fun with it.
More people are doing it today than ever before !

I've done the Model T bit with the warranty people many times, lots of fun. Hadn't thought of saying it was a '12 (which it is), so thanks for that slick idea. I do the fun stuff if I have time, my attitude is that they bothered me and have taken up my time so it is only fair for me to bother them and take up their time. Turn about is fair play. I didn't ask them to call me!

I was getting the warranty calls every other day. One day I picked up and told them I was very interested. They asked for what kind of car. Told them a 1915 Model T. They hung up on me and I didn't get another call from them for a couple months.

To tell the truth, Tom, I didn't think of calling mine a '12 (rather than a 1912), until I was typing the original post here.

I haven't had a call in the past few days. Can't wait 'til the next opportunity. (Old guys gotta have some fun in their lives."

I only got 1924 For out and "click"...I wanted to ask about the free oil changes and if that would be every 500 miles. :)

My favorite is the home security calls, I got one guy to bite....
I said I already have a security system, he asked "what kind" ?
I have a pit bull and a 12 gauge, and my response time is almost zero, can you beat that ?
He actually laughed !! :D

Lots of fun here ! The '13 gambit didn't go the whole nine yards for me. The "representative" apologized he couldn't find a 2013 model T, asked if it was a 2013, I had to tell him it was 1913. "Very sorry, sir, your car doesn't qualify. Do you have another car that might ?" I replied, "Nope. Only gas buggy I got. I'm riding a horse right now." (I was). Haven't had an "extended warranty" spam call since. That was two months ago. Maybe they gave up on me ??

Funny part here is, I don’t own ANY vehicle that’s eligible for coverage. 99 Subaru is too old and 270,000 miles is just slightly over the qualifying mileage. And that’s the newest thing I have.
Wife gets them too and has no vehicle in her name. They say she has a 2011 Hyundai....

I guess it goes in cycles....

I was getting the car warranty ones for a while, then from a hotel chain that I don't think I ever stayed at. Recently it has been the credit card ones telling me I can save interest by switching to their "latest & greatest" card. Funny thing with that is I only use one CC (my company card) & it is paid in full every month regardless of the balance, so I never pay any interest.

I would love to have the time to screw with them a bit & waste their time, but my only phone is my company phone & am already fielding tons of real calls, so I just hang up & block the number.

God Bless
Bill

I have a rental property. about once or twice a week I get a call someone wanting to buy it from me. I usually tell them "Special one time good deal just for you expires at 5P.M. $300,000 as is"! they usually tell me it is not worth that much since it is only 1100 sq. ft. My answer is that if I sell it I will need to but a $250,000 annuity to replace the income and need a little extra to take my wife to dinner. at that point they hang up!
Do it right or do it over, your choice. Drive like everyone is out to get you!
