I was given this photo by a friend and then another friend Emailed me a copy. I didn't realize until today it was Dad Clay's Garage.

As youngsters we were allowed to cross the RR tracks and the Yellowstone Highway to go downtown to movies. The lumber yard and Clay's garage were marvelous attractions along the way.
The car appears to be a 1910 White gasoline Model G-A Five-Passenger Touring.
A fellow who had worked their had a couple of old car tops and some magneto brushes he had saved from there but I couldn't afford them at the time.
Great memories anyway.

Even better, that's Dad Clay hisself standing in front of the White.
I had a mile or more farther than Rich to get downtown. One day I lost a nut off one of my bike pedals. Walking my "cripple" past the garage, a mechanic in the open doorway saw my predicament and fixed it for me. Fun memory. The links are to great articles ! Thanks, Rich.

There were some wonderful places that caught our interests Duey. I suppose every town had such spots. Just West of Dad Clay's was a machine shop that had fascinating examples of their work in the window. We went inside a few times. One fellow was making a gear which seemed amazing to me. Another machine shop a few blocks away did babbiting for us during our teens. It was a dark, dank place with belt drive machines. Some were converted to their own motors by then. The smells of oils and steel added to the ambiance. A little round man that could have been a hobbit told us stories and made excuses to why our parts weren't done.
Those things certainly instilled the curse into us. Everyone should have such magic to fire their passions.

Those magical places SO warped my young brain ! Some of my friends
appreciated them too, but none caught the fever like I did. When my old
peeps come around, they are blown away by my capturing of that ambiance,
and all comment something like "This is just like __________ place !", naming
one of those places we haunted as kids. A "curse" indeed ! Around here, it
is still 1940, and the Frugal family is just fine, still using Grandma's furniture.

More people are doing it today than ever before !
