Re: Pass the Salt
And that is what those bright young folks who don't have Model Ts have to do to pass the time.

Re: Pass the Salt
I do a fair amount of restoration of old machines. This often requires a lot of creative
fabrication. But nothing I have done approaches what some of my friends have done.
One built a Rube Goldberg monstrosity that wears like an enormous tuba. It is a squirming
mass of steam era spoked wheels, pulleys, drive chains, belts, sprockets and at the end
of a long arm is a pepper grinder. The wearer (presumably a restaurant waiter) would
ask the diner if they would like some freshly ground pepper on their salad. The wearer
then cranks a 12"-ish wheel and sets this entire menagerie in motion, leaning the arm
over the salad to sprinkle the requested pepper on the greens.
It took him several years and the raiding of many friends' junk piles to round up the
appropriate looking parts. It is breathtaking to see it working.
