Re: White ? Steam ?
It's a pretty cool photo. While the radiator does look like the condenser on a White steam car, the car would not have had a crank out the front or be chain drive. It looks a little like a Maxwell but I'm not sure.
I wonder how far it ended up from St. Anthony.
Maybe Joe will find it.
While I don't remember seeing a Roi-des-Belges body on a Maxwell the radiator and bulges at the hood's bottom do look Maxwell. Thanks
Rich

I'm always amazed to see photos of any number of brass-era (and before) cars in our area. They certainly were plentiful enough. I guess we didn't find the right junk piles on our hunting trips back when ? Perhaps it's a question of advanced decay ? We were finding 40 year old relics, perhaps the oldest stuff had been long since scrapped or rotted away ? As always, thanks for the ID. I missed the crank ! Duh !

Re: White ? Steam ?
Well, I was trying to guess which Model White it was before I spotted the crank. The fellow who found Joe K's '08 REO and '03 Rambler got found some pretty early stuff. He had the remains of a '15 REO 4cyl too. Several guys mentioned seeing them and passed them up as too far gone. Those were in the Ashton/St. Antony area. A one 1-cyl REO was discovered also. Larry P. found lots of early stuff too. Pre '10. But you know how he was.
The Maxwell I pictured had a two cyl engine mounted crosswise on the front of the frame. Thus the bulges in the hood. I see some great basket cases on the internet but can't do many more 20 year projects.

Re: White ? Steam ?
I don't think the car in question is a Maxwell. Maxwells with the "White condenser" radiator have a prominent support bar across the core. The other Maxwell radiator type (which ironically looks more like a Stanley Model 735 condenser) does not have the bar.
And I don't know of any model Maxwell that was chain drive to the wheels. And I've never seen a Maxwell, even the largest ones, with a Roi de Belges body. And the front frame horns are like no Maxwell I've seen.
Still, I see the undeniable overall resemblance to Maxwell - it's the details that throw me off.

With exception to the front fenders, this car looks like it could be either 1907 or 1908 Thomas model 25 touring.
On a side note: the Queen pictured is my 1906 Queen model K. That photo was taken in 2008 at the Pebble Beach Concours, where it place 2nd in the preservation class. The car is all original.-

The beefy hubs almost looks like a Packard. But it appears to have chain drive rear by the looks of the humps at the rear of the running boards with access doors...., Thomas?

Re: White ? Steam ?
I don't see that stylish chain cover on any Thomas, Maxwell or Queens. Mercedes has one close with the cap thing sticking through but certainly not the right radiator. We are probably looking at a lesser know make. It could be European but likely not in Idaho.

Re: White ? Steam ?
I often wonder why at shows and on scale models of these old cars we see the manufacturers name plastered over the face of the radiator but when we look at all the old pictures and try to identify them the radiator is blank.
