O.T. But At Least it is a Car & I Own It!

Post by Bills Auto Works » Mon Sep 20, 2021 12:54 pm

Hello Everyone,

I usually build my cars, but this time I purchased one that doesn't need much. The older I get the more I like the oddball lower production stuff you don't see much of.

Here is my 1955 Nash Ambassador Custom Lemans. It is a completely rust-free car that someone took great care of over the years. The Lemans package was the optional dual carb, higher horsepower engine that they used for racing in the Nash Healey the previous year.Production was around 2500 units, I have not researched how many were 4 doors yet.

I drove it for the 1st time to the Spencer Ohio Car Show yesterday. The weather was perfect & we had a great time! I was glad that it made the 35 mile round trip successfully. Steering box needs rebuilt as it has lots of play & all the shims have already been removed. Low speed steering was interesting, but the car rode like a dream at 55-60 on our country roads! It also needs a fuel pump, water pump as well as a couple of pot metal pieces chromed. The only other plans for it over winter are to detail the engine compartment & the trunk. Kind of nice to have one that I didn't have to do a restoration on!

I am also blessed to have a girl (Laura) who loves the cars, cruises, shows. I can see next year she will be driving one of the cars to the cruises & shows (probably the XLR-V with the roof down! :o :o :o )

God Bless
Bill

That is one Kool Nash Bill! That two-tone looks great on the side, are those seat covers original style?

I bought this Edsel 8 years ago when I was 15 and she's still going strong, which is surprising since she took a lot of beating from my younger self.

My great grandfather bought a red Edsel new in 57' and hated it, he traded it for two old brown Nash's, my father said he was embarrassed to ride in all three cars!

Nash & Rambler built a few sleepers in the 50s and 60s. All are rare.

Tadpole,

Great story, a good friend of mine wants an Edsel like yours but is in no position to buy one right now! Funny you ask about the seats, A gentleman who worked for SMS in Oregon for 8 years was at this show yesterday & he said the door panels (black & white were original) the seats have definitely been recovered in the tri color, but he did not say if the material was right or not. I will be seeing him in the next month or so & will have to ask his opinion on that.

Pat.....as I am learning with the more research I am doing, you are correct! I am looking forward to more research over winter about it as I will be taking some time off the road. I have only owned it for about a month & this was the first successful drive!

God Bless

The edsel was/is an excellent automobile. Same HP to weight ratio as the period Porsche. Just the wrong car @ the time when the market wanted a smaller second car for the family.

Hello Everyone,

Well the old girl won an award at the car show over the weekend! I have had lots of cars win trophies over the years & they are in a box in the attic somewhere. This was really cool because the club that put on the show made the awards. Ironically being a painter, mine was a custom painted thinner can featuring the Iconic Rat Fink!!!
