Re: Tractor Talk
I adopted this George tractor friday.
Seems to be complete except for it's air filter.
Nothing froze solid, all belts intact for getting the right replacements and so on.
shouldn't be to difficult to get back to working. Orange and green were it's original colors from what i have learned so far.
Clinton engine.No flat tires!

And VERY Heavy, when it won't roll.
I had some help to load it on the trailer yesterday before I came home from the show and this morning I set it in the shop with the Kubota tractor and a chain! I had to adapt to old age!

Interesting view of a TD-24. 1,024? cubic inch gas start, Diesel UD-24 engine. Very smooth. 2 foot tall people?
Start on gas, a few minute window to warm up and switch to Diesel cycle. Twin-stackers are the neatest.

Nice starter kit Dan! There's enough parts around you'll have it up and running in no time!

Re: Tractor Talk
I bought this Bolens 1050 at a local salvage yard for 75 bucks. Engine had a stuck exhaust valve. I installed a 3ft boxblade on the brinley hitch and i have been using it for the past month to keep things leveled up on the driveway.
Needs the chargeing system fixed, and a muffler.I had to take the raggedy exhaust pipe off to get to the valve stem to bump it with a brass punch to unstick it without taking the head off.
10 Wisconsin engine. 6 forwards 2 reverse, has a positive traction lock on the rear end as well. Wrong front tires and wheels until I get the originals cleaned up and new tires back on them.

I supplied a couple parts for a Bantam a few years ago that was being customized. It was at the Denton Threshers reunion last week along with the cub cadet the same man customized. The Bantam has a Briggs and stratton Vanguard engine on it souped up to 65 horse power! Trust me,it will SCOOT>

Re: Tractor Talk
Well,I picked this little 1970 Bonanza up at the auction at Denton threshers reunion this year.12 bucks! But it was a rusty hulk missing everything.
I converted it to 36 volt electric.
I used the drive trans-axle with motor from a electric mobility scooter and a pwm dc motor controller.
Not alot of torque for hills as the larger wheels kinda altered it's gear ratios but it should function as a curiosity 'buttbuggy" for the tractor shows I attend.
I won't bore you with alot of photos but there was no engine,no wheels, half the transmission was gone,no mowing deck,no seat, and the hood had been cut up really bad.

I just used at a tractor show-swap meet this weekend and it works great for the job.Just need to get some hi tech help figuring out how to reduce the operating arc of a potientometer so I can use a foot operated accelerator. the knob on the dash is a bit awkward for speed control.

This was my father-in-law's. He loaned it to me about 30 years ago to plow my garden. I have the bottom plow 8n the garage. When we were moving from the left coast to the Midwest, I thought about selling it. My 29 YO daughter told me I couldn't, because she remembered sitting on it and pretending to drive. Someday it will have the time to get it running again.

there is a fellow up north that has a huge stock of NOS Wisconsin parts for that engine and others on your Gibson. My friend that got me started in model T's had a couple of them. The transmission on his was always hard to get in gear.

I don't see a steering wheel on that Gibson, does it steer with the lever on the near side in the picture ? That should take some getting used to

Re: Tractor Talk
Yes, the right side lever is for steering. Left two, front and rear, are for the plow blade and drop hitch, respectively. It does go pretty fast in third, but not so fast that the steering is crazy. It has good caster, so it tracks straight.

Re: Tractor Talk
1953 Ford Jubilee (NAA). I've owned this tractor for over 25 years and use it for mowing my grass (including a 1/4 mile grass runway) and plowing snow in the winter. Not a pampered pet but a working tractor.
Recently I've had a problem with the hydraulics that control the three point hitch. It's either all the way down or all the way up....no in-between. I've been referred to a gent who I'm told it the go-to guy for old tractor repairs. He can't get to it until February but he cautioned me that parts are hard if not impossible to find...suggesting it might be cheaper in the long run to scrap it and buy a new (used) tractor. That was not exactly what I was hoping to hear. I wonder if anyone on the forum has any insights into my problem or how to deal with the parts issue for this tractor.
A couple of years back I had a spindle break because a former owner had left off a thrust washer. I and a friend staged this photo, reminiscent of the WWII Bill Maudlin cartoon of a GI putting a Jeep with a broken axle out of it's misery. This same tractor tried to get it's revenge back in 2019 when my foot got pulled in between the fender and tire, shattering my ankle and causing no end of problems. I've forgiven it but I pay careful attention to where my feet are

Are you sure he's not the go to guy for buying and selling used tractors? There are thousands of those bullet proof tractors out there Still in use and many in graveyards for parts. Yours looks nicer than most. By all means trade it in for something else if you like. But I don't believe your jubilee is ready for the scrap pile. Someone will repair it and flip it for a profit.

Re: Tractor Talk
my best first guess would be that there is something wrong with the draft control for your 3pt hitch. going all the way up and all the way down might mean it's in the max position. have you ever messed with the draft lever positions? a couple other things to check, do the 3pt hitch arms stay up when the tractor is off? is there the proper amount of oil in the system? has it been acting up recent or always been this way? here is a diagram of the jubilee system
Bryant
stuck valve? something bent or broken? bad ram piston rings? there are a number of things that can go wrong just need some more details. I defiantly wouldn't scrap it. Steiners tractor parts and Dennis and carpenter supply a lot of parts for these.Bryant

Re: Tractor Talk
Thanks guys, I don't want to scrap the old girl....I'd just as soon keep her and put her back to work. I have chains for the turf tires and found her to be reliable, summer and winter.
I haven't personally investigated anything with the hydraulics. The lever seems stiffer than normal and as soon as I move it up a little the hitch goes all the way to the top and I hear a sound like the pump working to keep it there.
It's a new problem. It has always worked pretty good, allowing me to make small adjustments. If I leave it parked with the hitch up a bit with the mower on (weighs a bit under 500 lbs) the arms will slowly settle over time.
In looking for a mechanic, I contacted the local antique tractor club and asked for their recommendation. They gave me the name of the guy I've been talking to. They also said he's a great mechanic but not the best when it comes to dealing with people. He's been burned a number of times and is kinda gruff until he gets to know you.
I'm fortunate that Steiners is on the way to my daughter's place, about a hour and a half from me. That's where I got a spindle to replace the one that broke as well as a few minor parts.
