Two Dollies or Four Dollies

Post by CatGuy » Wed Jun 22, 2022 3:29 pm

Do you think I could get away with just two wheel dollies (for the rear wheels) on my '26 Roadster? Just looking to move it around the garage some.

You could if all you want to do is push it back and forth. By using 4 dollies you can spin the car in a tight circle.

My experience is that 4 doilies are the minimum. This allows movement sideways, crossways and back and forward or any combination of the above ;-)
As long as the floor is clean, you can move the car quite easily on your own.

I guess 2 sets would work, but you would need to jack the car up and down moving them from front to rear.

You need 4 good dollies. You will also need a smooth, hard, level floor. Dollies are useless, and dangerous, on a rough, off-level, or soft surface. Keep in mind that a car on dollies has no brakes or steering. The law of gravity still applies, too, as does the law of inertia. A car on dollies on a sloped surface can and will move downhill, forward, backward, or sideways, until it hits something.

Beware of using 2 dollies on the rear and a floor Jack up front. You risk the T coming off the floor Jack and doing substantial damage, if you try to push the car around. You're either going to wipe out the crank or the tie rod when the car comes crashing down.
It's 4 or none for me.
