I suppose the environmentalists wouldn't like smudge pots. We used to use them here in California when expecting a freeze. Now that the cities have taken over the whole southern area, there are very few citrus groves left.

We used Smudge pots in Florida too, made for nasty driving conditions when it was cold and foggy

When life gives you lemons it's time to search around and find someone whose life has given him tequila.

I have been informed that I misquoted Trini Lopez's Lemon tree! It should read Lemon Tree Very Pretty and the Lemon Flower is very Sweet. OOPS!

My apologies!

Growing up, we had a huge lemon tree that bore fruit almost year round. They were enormous, and the sweetest lemons you ever tasted. Years later, I found that the trees roots went directly into an abandoned septic tank.

We haven't had frost yet this winter, however the deer eat the leaves and young fruit before it gets ripe. Hopefully they will go back into the mountains after all the rain we had so far. Almost all the wild animals have been coming into our yards since the drought.

FWIW, the song was written by Will Holt, inspired by a similar Brazilian song that was popular in the 1930s. Peter, Paul and Mary had a major hit with the tune in 1962, three years before Trini Lopez released his "cover" of it. Great song, great performances. I like both their interpretations !

OK, lived in the Caribbean for eleven years. Here's what you do with your lemon juice. Typically, this recipe calls for lime juice, but lemon will do.
4 of strong
3 of weak
2 of sour
1 of sweet
4 volumes of good rum, Barbados rum is best
3 volumes of water
2 volumes of simple syrup (sugar concentrate, found in the drinks mix section of your grocery store)
1 volume of lime or lemon juice
Mix, pour over ice, garnish with freshly grated nutmeg; Rum punch!
