Here in Minnesota, this is how it was usually played - I knew composer/arranger James "Red" McLeod who orchestrated this particular arrangement for Whoopee John:

I grew up listening to old-time music jam sessions at home a couple times a year. Aunt and uncle along with relatives sometimes, mom on the spoons... Don't disturb the microphone recording it! Aunt Kay had a better voice than Suzy Boggess.
GR, it's too darn fast for square dancing.
Dad was a caller. Back then, he had a piece of paper with the calls and a 45 record to go by for practice in the house.
Got stopped by the cops coming home from calling one night. He said the old blue Jimmy won't go that fast (67 GMC 1/2 ton with the V-6 LOADED down with tools)! Clocked at 85 downhill.
You guys? Huh, whooda thunk.
Happy music for happy people.
I tend to prefer concertina music but hey, if it jams? Yeah! Have a friend that sends me clips from his phone as he drives.
