Old touring placks

Post by Robert Bente » Tue May 28, 2019 9:14 pm

I’ve some old touring placks from the 1950’s. They probably were on tours with Bill Harrah.
I can’t attribute that my car was on these tours, but they came with it. Any thoughts?
1953 - 1956
Reno, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, etc.

You might want to look through some HCC Gazettes from those years. Some of those tours were well covered in the magazine. Never know? Might find pictures of your car?
1956 was a good year for them. Those magazines show up on eBad often. Earlier ones do show up, but not so often. Don't pay TOO much. A number of eBad sellers have been listing the same early copies for years at ridiculous prices (like $25 to $50!). Same issues can often be had for $10 to $15 last time I looked (been a little while). If you can find someone close to you to look through them together, you may be able to figure which ones you want and watch for them to show up. Be careful. You may end up collecting most of the set! (I am missing about a half dozen from 1948 to date.)

Wayne makes a great point. Two HCCA Gazettes I found were:
Vol 16, No 5 (1954) has two articles on the Reno Tour.
Vol 20, Number 4 (1958) had great color pictures of the Tahoe tour. A group shot of all participants should reveal your car.
Was the car in question your '16 Runabout? And we you the participant?
When did I do that?

Wayne, Rich, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I was born in 58, so I missed the the tours.
The car is a blue 1911 Buick, model 33.
Wayne, will you be at the Auburn swap meet this Sunday?

Robert B, I won't know whether I will be going until Sunday. It was looking like a "no", but now looks like I might yet get there. If I do go? I could try to bring a few of my '50s HCC Gazettes to look at? They are getting old and a bit fragile.

Tour plaques can be treasures to keep. They can be colorful and interesting. The lower left was a leather one.
