Having run out of salt I was rummaging through the cupboards and found this A little research told me this salt was sold in 2014 to celebrate the 100th year of the umbrella girl logo and the slogan when it rains it pours... does any one know if salt has an exp. date? (at least it is celebrating an event in the model "T" era.

That is cool. I remember the later versions about 1960s and later.

If nothing has gotten into the container it should be fine. Sometimes moisture will cause it to clump together but it's still ok.

The salt is probably millions of years old. If it is iodized salt, it may have lost some iodine content. I don't think salt will support any kind of mold or bacteria, and it doesn't seem to hold on to odors like baking soda can do.

A 2014 Morton's salt box has a 100th birthday banner and fireworks on the front.

Your box of salt is probably older than 2014. Look on the bottom of the box and it should be stamped "made on xx/xx/xx".

It takes me many years to go through a box of salt. The one in my cupboard is similar to yours but commemorates the 1933 version of the umbrella girl and is stamped "made on 10/23/08" on the bottom.

Certainly not with Morton's ! That's the whole point of the umbrella girl, and the slogan "When it rains, it pours !"

Salt will be good forever, it is indeed, likely a zillion years old already, hence the point of salting meats etc. If yours is clumped from moisture then a quick trip in the food processor or blender will bring it back to proper condition.

Still pours fine... but the date on the bottom is unreadable, probably from being scooted around on the shelf I have an identical box in the cabinet unopened! I shouldn't have to by salt for the rest of my life.

I recall the fellow who put some in his electrolyte and was arrested for Salt in the battery.
