A fellow today offered me what seems like a fair trade, a nice looking but unrestored 1916 Maxwell touring car. It has presentable paint and original interior the motor is complete and turns over freely. The top is bad. That is all he or I can say about it. He bought it to get another early car and has no interest in the Maxwell. I have only seen pictures of the car since we are about 3 hours apart from each other. It is hard to see much without being there with the car but because of Jack Benny I have always had an interest in finding a Maxwell. I can't even find any sold cars to know if they are worth anything or are at all resellable. If I make the trade I will have about $5000 in the car. If it were a T touring in the same shape I would definitely take the deal but what about a Maxwell. Were they any good? According to the Jack Benny Program they were the worst car ever. In a way that makes it more interesting. Any advice will be welcomed. Thanks and God Bless

I don't know anything about Maxwell's other than I think it was Harrah's Casino was going to restore one for Jack Benny but he let it be known he had no interest. Mel Blanc was always the Maxwell for Jack. check out this link

I have a 1916 Touring, great little car, they are not as rare as some other brands from the time so parts are not impossible to find. From 17 on to the early 20’s the rear ends are notorious for poor metals and gear disintegration. If you can get the serial number, originally located on the base of the front passenger seat facing the door, you should be able to pinpoint the approximate manufacturing date and assume the condition of the rear end.
