A lot of that thing could be rebuilt with flat sheet metal. A little rough sheet metal looks just fine under flat olive drab.

Cool find! We saved a closed cab cckw that a guy wanted for the fenders and scrap the rest. It has a chopped frame, 4 instead of 6 wheels, and a manure spreader on it- which is rusted out, and the truck isnt much better. We also saved a neat rusted hobart welder and generator from the 40s. We saw an old rock crusher being chopped up for scrap and a lot of old neat farm equipment along with it. :(
The former owner was crying when she found out what was happening to most of the things after the auction.

I got all the trash cleaned off the back of it, and accessed it a bit the other day. hood had a solid sheet of fiberglass on it, alot of bondo in the corners, and the entire top of the cowl is gone, what's there is a bolted on piece of sheet metal.
I have since located, a mile down the road, a 49 power wagon that will sadly be stripped for it's body to go on a 2005 dodge chassis. i want to stay connected with the fellow because the engine is similar enough to fit this. When i first decided to try to save this, i didn't know it was quite so rusty. but my plan originally was to put a 300 ci inline ford 6 cylinder in it. still might, aint gave up. thinking of selling was a first impulse after finding all the rust.
And it was a Air force truck, so blue would be it's correct color.

You couldn't pay me to cut up a real Power Wagon. I might go as far as putting a Cummins engine in one, but I wouldn't molest a good original even to do that. I think the Dodge flathead sixes will interchange across a wide range of years. There are truck versions with more displacement and torque than the ones in most cars. A Chrylser six marine/industrial engine might be a close fit. I used to see 1970s and early 1980s pickup-based Power Wagons on the road in a flat olive drab and in a flat Air Force medium blue. I never see the National Guard or Air Force guys out on the roads on weekends anymore. A Ford 300 with a five speed behind it would be a good choice.

so far have done nothing but look at it. I have recovered from having a stent put in to my heart on the 7th of november , I had a 99% blockage and it would have been called a widow maker had i been married. But the stent got put in just in time.

I haven't located many parts for this thing that's for sure. M series Rebuild is only about 40 miles from here. But even the guy running that company is now making the tooling to stamp M37 bedsides, fenders and such as parts are drying up.

Some nice ones online for 20 to 25 K. A very solid original looking one offered for about 5 K. The ad is undated.
