A sucker for chocolate

After losing two chocolate Labs that were 13 and 14 years old search dogs, my wife is a sucker for chocolate . Last spring she brought home another from the shelter. He had teminal cancer and had 3 to 4 months to live. She said she coulnt stand him spending his final days laying in a shelter and being fed and seen once a day. He lived another 7 months like a king and as soon as he was in pain we knew it was time. RIP Max.

Yesterday she brought home another. Nine year old Milo. He came from a good home broken by drugs. From living at the shelter to living the dream.

My neighbor has a huge choclate lab that his son got and then went nuts on drugs and so the neighbor got the dog away from him.He lives the life,runs loose on the farm but never gets out of site of the house.weighs 120 pounds and thinks hes a small puppy that trys to get in my lap everytime I sit down on their porch.I call him a Half lap Lab because he can only half of himself up in my lap then he stands on his hind legs.

Merry Christmas to you and yours Dallas! We lost a fan motor on the corn stove after 13 years and had to use fuel oil for a day The corn stove is back on line and soon we will be a house full of family,warm and happy! Bud.

I keep an extra motor for that reason. The grand youngins will be here in a bit. I bet paw paw will have to fire up the T for a spin. No snow for sledding but they like the T. Memories the can keep forever.

Glad to see that you got another! Furry friends are something no good person should be without for very long.

When I saw the thread title, I was thinking thoughts of a different kind of chocolate. I have a real weakness for eating chocolate. Candy, cake, ice cream, I don't care. However, I discovered some years ago that if I eat too much of it? I get migraine headaches. Still can't give it up entirely, but started getting headaches about a week ago, so gotta cut back again.

Maybe I should try having a chocolate Lab instead?

Our pets are certainly a big part of our lives and deserve a little show-casing here I think. How many of us have a pet that’s as crazy about Model Ts as we are ?

Hannah is my highly trained working dog. On sheep, I do everything she tells me ! She’s also an avid Model T enthusiast.

Short of bears, hippos, and crocodiles, I pretty much like all sorts of critters.
We are dog-free these days, on account of the last one aging out, and wanting
to wait until a few high time-consuming projects are finished, so we have time
to "abuse" a dog properly. In the meantime, we picked up a couple less demanding
sleens, and the chickens I raised from little puffballs, which follow me everywhere
I go and like to be held. The sleens are solar/radiant powered hybrids, in keeping
with current social/environmental awareness trends. If there is a spot of sun on
the floor, that is where you will find them, recharging. If no sun is available, they
recharge in front of the stove.

Burger, you’re lucky !! Or much better informed than we are. The sleen that adopted us a couple of weeks ago is not solar/radiant powered. The vet informs us he is an “obligate carnivore”. Contrary to all current PC trends, he thrives on raw meat (meat is murder) and at the current rate he consumes it, he will soon require more than is needed to keep our three resident canines !

Much as our Model T's were no longer wanted as newer and "better" cars came
on the market, ... or perhaps this might be better examplified by steam cars, the
non-solar sleens are going to fall out of favor with a sleening public and values
will drop, further reducing their popularity.

Reducing our sleen/carbon footprint has been a major concern for us here at
the Burger compound.

Funny how things work. We have a dog " Shepherd" that was sick the 1st 3 years of his life. Never had a solid stool. He is hi strung, cant be around other dogs or people. He is from border patrol stock and is not a nice guy to play with. Anyway, we tried every dog food known to man, no corn, no rice, medicated from the vet. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and tests out the wazoo. Finally my wife tried raw meat like a real dog would eat. Wa,La no problems since! Cheap chicken, beef,deer heck he eats better than I do! I could use a barn critter that runs on meat. We had 23 at one time but they all left one way or another. Not sure they would survive a run in with our Shepherds and the Lab Milo would chase him for sure. Solar powered wouldnt work either if it had to be inside.

Dallas, a couple of years back we were adopted by a Corgi who had a number of health issues. Long story short, most of his ailments responded to a diet based on raw meat. We’re lucky to have an “in” with a local packing house.

its interesting that there were articles out this week stating that some dogs fed a diet lacking in grains had a higher incidence of heart trouble....go figure! My daughter tried a fancy food (blue Buffalo) on her French Bulldog and it made him Ill. I suspect dogs have some food allergies or other problems much as people do. You've got to go with what works.

Had a little rescue mutt once , Sasha, the first three months we had her (she was about two years old then) she really didn't want to eat, we tried everything, expensive diet food, all brands of good dogfood we could get our hands on, raw meat, cooked beef, venison, really everything, we were at the end of our string as she was getting skinnier by the day.
As a last resort my wife bought a big can of the cheapest "meat" dogfood she could find, the kind you have to open with a clothespin on your nose,
You guessed it, she loved it, and lived to become 19 years on a can of the foul stuff a day, go figure !

Short of things like wood, steel, and paint, our suckweasel would eat ANYTHING
not kept from her, except pickles ! She could sense a "food event" from another room,
and rarely did anything edible hit the floor when dropped. Just look at this evil face !

In both your and my photo, you see the same thing going on. The suckweasel

Dallas, your pup looks completely at ease. It’s relaxing just to see a dog so contented in his sleep !

This is Pal, who wandered in a couple of years ago and adopted us. He was pretty badly damaged and has a lung condition but his health has improved steadily. Here he’s sleeping, but he’s earned it. He runs hard all over the place “on patrol” while we do the chores. He is now the self-appointed guardian dog.

Both dogs and cats have an ingrained training program to pose as roadkill.

I like to try and reverse the mind warp when possible. Make a square on the
floor with masking tape and see where the cat positions itself.

The Oleo Leaper Dog would get herself so wound up when we put her in the
wife's car for a long trip, that I'd let her out and drive off just fast enough to
keep ahead. Drive down the road a patch and open the door. She'd hop in and
after the panting stopped, she'd lay down all nice and quiet-like for the rest of
the trip. One of the advantages of living in a semi-rural area.
