Oh boy I guess. Old wooden floors and oil. Mmmm, :)
Reminds me of Milwaukee 1992. Thanksgiving weekend in a rope making factory...
Near coolest place ever. Machinery all around us. Machine shop on the third floor.
We got the steam engine and have made rope for years at the show.
We even held Mike A's ankles and hung him OUT, OVER the edge of the building so we could get the sign!
Like you say, fond memories of a non repeatable era. We ALL have stories that'd mesh similarly.

First one is a Kenworth, 'K-W' on rad and 'Kenworth' on the step, second one seems to read 'Chicago' on the front crossmember, and on the front firewall looks like 'Quick Resilient Wheels' the Q is a guess, its a little hard to see could be a 'B' too..

Kind of an odd scenario. Neither truck appears to be stuck, they aren't sunk down in the mud much, especially with chains on. The road next to them is fairly solid. The White has its hood open and a chain is hanging on the front. I wonder if it broke down and the Jeffrey Quad crew came to try to get it going again and couldn't and are getting ready tow it? Interesting photo. Dave

I assure you they are not stuck. This letter was included with the info I got from White Motor Co. It illustrates what their trucks could do and I'm sure they were very capable of trudging through mud.

Burger,

Doggone it! Why did yo have to ask what make is the sedan on the hook? I probably spent 2 hours online scrolling through photos of old cars. You'd think it would be fairly easy to identify. The windshield and the radiator cover are very distinctive. Also, although blurry, when I enlarge the emblem it appears to be a light colored heart shape with an insignia. I couldn't find anything that I thought came close enough to even qualify as a "maybe".

Anybody else have any ideas what that car is?

P.S. At least you kept me busy for a while today!

Yeah, lovely. I have wracked (racked?) my brain over it already.
I can think of two automobile lines that used a similar shield-like shape for their radiator badge and advertising symbol. However, I do not think that car is either of them. The two cars are Maxwell, and Mercer. The radiator shell bears some similarity to a '15 to about '18 Maxwell. But nothing else there looks like Maxwell, and the similar Maxwell shell was rounded on the front. Not so flat like this one.
Really nothing about the car looks like Mercer. Well, maybe the wire wheels?
Being a fairly early four-door sedan, leaves us with many possibilities. It is likely about 1920, could be a couple years earlier or later. Late '10s sedans were rarely built by the primary body supplier for most automobile manufacturers. They were usually outsourced to specialty body companies that provided four-door sedans for many automobiles. Nearly identical bodies could be found on any of a dozen marques. They would be individually fitted to the differing chassis.
The body looks a lot like some Franklin sedans of the late '10s to about 1922. Franklin was well known for that style V windshield. I thought maybe someone liked their Franklin, but hated the funny look of the front. Maybe they put an after-market fake shell and hood on it. But I don't think the fenders are right for Franklin. Nor does the front axle look like the Franklin front axles I have seen. Even more against the Franklin possibility? Most Franklin four-door sedans I have seen from the '20s had four suicide doors. I even googled Franklin images and found a dozen or more sedans, all with suicide doors. This car clearly appears to have four doors. All opening at the back. Could there have been an exception? Maybe one of those "outsourced" bodies was different?

Guess I will have to Wrack the brain a little longer. Neat looking car!

COOL!
Those headlights are certainly unusual. I'm guessing something has been added where the lens was. Since the carbide tank is still in place they may not be electric.
Nice striping on the frame.
Thanks Herb.

The Morrow-Hutton Company traveling grocery was in Wallace, ID. This photo was take about 1920. The Model T headlight and windshield would support that time frame.

In 2004, the Mayor proclaimed the city of Wallace, Idaho to be the center of the universe (because it can’t be proven otherwise). This was pointed out on a TV program this morning.

Levi and May Hutton are BIG names in Spokane history, and the Coeur d'Alene
mining scene. He was big in business and charity, She was a bold female figure
in social issues and made quite a name for herself, outside of Levi. I live just
a few blocks from the Hutton School, and there are other various landmarks
and memorials around, built to commemorate the Huttons' contributions to
early Spokane history.
More people are doing it today than ever before !

Rich, One current hypothesis based upon unification theories of the formation of the universe is that every point in the universe is the center of the universe.
So the Mayor of Wallace may be right?

I thought the hood looked unusual too. It turns out a pennant is what I was seeing. It looked like a Buick to me. Perhaps 1914?

Fascinating photos!
Got stuck on the Wallis tractor 5 pics above and the mid-late 20's IH? fuel? Barnsdale truck too.
Wallis Cub Junior or K with the boiler plate frame/oil pan?
Amazing how many views these photos have gotten!
:)
EDIT: Funky to watch some Wallis tractor start-ups. Ya put the handle on the belt pulley and "throw" the handle down.
A good fella from Kansas posted a starting vid on the tube and he had to look under the rear axle for that handle...
Since I lost my mind mind, I feel more liberated

That's quite a truck and at work. I think it is a 1922 Autocar based on the wheel hubs.
If charlie were still with us he would either correct me or confirm it. I'm pretty sure though.

Yes, I'd love some Ice Cream. You can almost read the "Packard" on the radiator. I'm guessing late teens. That headlight location was quite common for them.

Spot on, Rich. Both Packard and Pierce-Arrow's response to WW I mobilization was to produce heavy trucks for the expeditionary forces. After the Armistice a glut of military surplus trucks flooded the market, and Packard ceased building them altogether by 1924. There's a good chance the ice cream truck was a war surplus vehicle. The timing is right vis a vis passage of the Volsted Act (1919) as well.

Yes, great puctures ! Many thanks.

I would say the Harley is about a 1912 or 1913. The twins were belt drive previous to that. The enclosed chain drive truck looks familiar but I can think what is is yet. I'll do some looking.

When I was a kid in San Jose, CA during the 1950's garbage trucks like this one were in use. The garbage men had large aluminum cans, maybe 50 or 60 gallon capacity, with a large shoulder hook. They'd come down the driveway to the back yard, put down the big can, empty our 2 regular size garbage cans into the large one, then squat down and lift the full big can with their shoulder. When they got back to the truck they'd climb up the steps and dump it. It was not easy work!

I'm not so sure White's were used in San Jose, but the body set-up was pretty much identical and they were green, not red. If I remember correctly they were manned by a 3 man crew. 1 guy was the driver and the other 2 hauled the garbage as I described above. I never noticed if they rotated positions as they proceeded on their route, but I bet they did.

Fortunately the Garford name appears on the body so we know the manufacturer. I see the photo identified as WA and called a 1912 one place and a 1926 the other. My guess would be more like '18 or '20.

There is a simpler way to dispense the fuel without tipping the tank.
That is apparently a trailer as I don't see a motor or steering. From the snow on the ground it may have been due to icy streets. The air brakes didn't help. I like those clear photos.

I often look at these trucks that were loaded with furniture and wonder if the people are just moving local or did they have to pack up and head out in search of work and a better life.

I can remember trucks that looked like that. It was another great era long gone.
Thanks

Cool rig! It may be "Demonets Inc." District Of Columbia Corporation May 1, 1908.
Now Loeb's NY Deli, home of the "Wicked Waffle". (No connection or endorsement.)

Of course the TT is a '20s. If not, fun photos.

That is a pretty fancy delivery but why no rear mudguards ?
When in trouble, do not fear, blame the second engineer ! 8-)

I cannot sat why there are no rear mud guards. First I thought to say that the truck was too new and the photo was for a promotion but then I noticed that the front fender was bent which indicates the truck had been in service for a while.

I would guess the one above is an IHC? Anyone know for sure?

It certainly is an International Herb. The sidelights look like black and brass so I would guess a '13 or '14. Some wonderful additions have been added to the standard express wagon body and bed.
It's a nice slice of early marketing.
