Model T trailer

Post by Retro54 » Sat Apr 10, 2021 12:31 pm

Thought you kids might enjoy this one.

I stumbled on this cart, a near 10 minutes from my house on Craigslist. It was priced for weeks between. 100 and 200 bucks, and for what it seemed to be I thought that was a bit much. Upon checking the add this past Monday, a price drop to $40 made me text the guy immediately and set a time to pick it up.

Now, I don't know what I will do with it, but I know that its made well enough that its just plain cool. The sides really set it off and with a legitimate dumping mechanism, it's gonna be such a useful cart! The rear axle is T, still attached to the rear cross member. The original t frame is the sub-frame and it pie cut up front to form the hitch. Everything is bolted with old style hardware and stick welded. The 1/4" thick steel plate on the bed has keep the wood in good condition and adds a heft seldom seen in carts this size. Pretty sure the limiting factor for loading will be the tires and tubes. This thing could haul a Fordson Tractor! The dumping mechanism is well balanced and thought out. Its just a well engineered thing that is just imperfect enough to lead me to believe it is home made. The tag up front is a Pennsylvania DOT tag I think. Need to investigate.

Anyways, enjoy. Deals are out there even if you gotta pay someone 40 bucks to haul away their junk!

That fabrication was nicely done.
Thanks for letting us see it.

When did I do that?

Andy,

Glad to see that trailer made it to a good home. I saw the ad for it on Craigslist when it was first listed for $200. I would have been tempted if it weren’t for being an hour and a half away.

That's a great find, and for less than the price of a tank of gas....!!!

What a cool trailer, Andy. Nice job capturing it. But I can tell you with perfect certainty it will not haul a Fordson.

Ed, I can understand! Once they lowered the price and being so close, I just had to go get it. The gentleman selling was a good guy who didn't seem to need the $$ but wanted to see it go to a good home and not be thrown away.

You actually waited for the price to go down before going for it? Gotta say model T guys are a frugal bunch!
All in fun! That wouldn't have lasted an hour on Craigslist up here in Minnesota.

I have other projects.... and have resigned myself to finish those before I get more stuff... so yea, I didn't jump right away. But when it dropped this low, I figured why not. Like my dad said, in 10 years I'll be glad I have it.

It was located only 15 minutes from the famed 'Hershey car show, so I am equally surprised another collector didn't snatch it up.
