I was asked to take the Amish shool kids for icecream. Its their prize for beating the adult men in baseball on the last day of school. I know all the kids as they are all neighbors. 22 people will be a record as we have had 20 in it before. I hope to get a few pics of that trip but I have to ask first.

You are just a kid in the candy shop with that truck. After all the hard work you put into rebuilding it. Now if only you could outrace the bishop.

It is a blast Dave. I hope to make it to OCF this year with it. Its 100 this year. The 9ft bed is great for taking along a few friends. Hope to get a ride in that speedster again. You made my old buddys year the last time. He is still talking about that.

Re: Request
I hope they allow that in Indiana. Here in California it would be a serious offence. We must all be seated and if children must be in seat belts or approved seats. When I was a boy, the local YMCA would load up a truck of boys and drive about 25 miles to the beach. Things are different these days.

Re: Request
Since the NHTSA recommends booster seats for kids up to 11 years old, I wonder where all the straps will fasten?
Frankly, now that I know that, I am no longer surprised that young boys these days don't know they're really boys unless they ask their teachers! I'd have been one mortified 11 year old if someone put me in a booster seat.
Dallas, have fun while you're still allowed.

Re: Request
I have never seen a booster seat or seatbelt in a buggy. Pretty rare to see a youngster fall out. The bishop ran over himself with his own buggy once. Broke a few ribs but wont live down his nickname " speedbump" that I gave him.
It is unlawfull to ride in the back of a truck here also. I will take my chances with that I guess. My aguement is the truck has bench seating in the bed. I will worry about that when the time comes. Let kids be kids. At 15 to 20mph we have a blast. They laugh and smile the entire way to and from.
I know some people are so afraid of what may happen that real life passes right by them. The memmories are all we have at the end so make enough that your rich when your done. My grand kids ride in back from the time they are babies in moms arms and that memmory will last a lifetime.

Well..., I would not change anything in my childhood. Raised to be a man.., survived standing up in the front and back seat, back of a truck bed at 55 mph plus, walked to school, and even had a deer rifle in the back window of my truck in high school during deer season. Soo all this prevention sounds great.., but somewhere into the equation common sense was missed. Now kids need to be told what gender to choose and with all those social issues.., go and shoot up other school kids.
Dallas.., enjoy your community of real people with common sense and deep respect for their fellow man.

Re: Request
When my daughter was a senior in high school in 2008 in Walnut Creek Ca. one of her friends , who had her Ca drivers license, but because she was only 4 feet 8 inches tall and weighed 85 lbs, by the letter of the Ca law at the time, when riding in a car she had to use a car booster seat and sit down in the back. When she was driving her car, which had power up and down, back and forth seats, she could see and drive just fine. I pitty the fool cop that tried to give her a ticket for not being in a car booster seat in the back, as the old tv show would say.

Original plan was to drive the Touring over the Mackinaw bridge. Now thinking of bringing the speedster. I will give you the key and I will crank it for you, but you have to bring it back or I take the truck.

You should be blessed for doing it like we've been doing it for a hundred.
Darn right the grandkids have ridden in the back of the pickup. And I have a four door!
One even took a ride INSIDE the garbage can as I pulled it down the driveway.
He wanted to. We didn't tell grandma til later... Thank you for keeping the ninnys grounded. Or tipped over, depending.

Today was the day. All clean and ready to go.
The big green truck tuned 100 this year and celebrated by taking 28 passengers and myself 7 miles to the icecream shop.
Only 3 adults if you count me, and fun was had by all. I know all these kids and their parents as they are all neighbors. I helped build their school and watched them grow and some of their parents. Pretty special day for the kids and even more so for me.-

The speed limit here for riding in the back of a truck is 35. i don't think you can break that law in New Orleans.

Thats right. One of the lakes has a flashing sign that tells your speed. Posted limit is 35. I pulled the throttle down and we hit the blistering speed of 25mph and they all cheered in the back. They also cheered and laughed when we passed a buggy.

Oh look! People having a great time without worrying about violating silly overprotective rules. I also saw a truck bed full of smiling kids today in town and did not think twice about it because that was the norm when I grew up.

Re: Request
Dallas,
I have the perfect LEGAL solution. Being as you to not exceed 25mph, you are required to have a slow speed vehicle triangle sign on the back of your truck. Being as it's obviously a farm truck, with the triangle, you MUST adhere to "Farm Vehicle" restrictions. Have all the "farm cargo" wear their straw hats. When the cop stops you, you are hauling a load of STRAW and abiding by all "Farm Vehicle" regulations. He will NEVER get a ticket to stick in court when you show the judge your load of straw and have their testimony, you never exceeded 25mph with the triangle on the back.
Dallas, PLEASE keep telling these stories. Some of us NEVER get the opportunities you have. I often picture myself in your place hauling all those good people for a good time. THAT'S WHAT GOOD LIFE IS ALL ABOUT.
Thank You Dallas!

A couple photos a friend sent from the icecream shop. The TT is riding low in the front and back.
The old girl rides like a caddy with a real load on it. The twin Hasslers out front help. When I get time I will install the rear hasslers and see how she rides.-

I see no pictures of the driver. Perhaps we need permission from his parents, or his parents already said no pictures.
Maybe he has gotten too grey and does not wish to appear in public. Probably hiding under a straw hat and coveralls.

Dallas,
That's an awesome memory! I snorted out loud when they cheered hitting 25 MPH. When I was up north for Memorial Day weekend I got stuck behind many buggies... the fastest was 9 miles per hour!
Thanks for this morning's smile.
