How to get the wife or GF to go on long tours

Post by Jeff » Mon Jan 07, 2019 11:10 am

I found the perfect persuasion device for my wife. It works on the insanely noisy T 6 volt electrical system and has 2 USB charge ports. One for me and one for her iPhone’s hungry power (2amp). 2 wires and Hidden under the dash - it’s 2”x1.5”. So useful!

I used to have a disdain for my wife going along on a Toodle. I've softened some since.

Ya, she'd be on her phone more than helping me to keep watch after a couple miles..

My wife will not ride in any of my T's under any circumstances. Fortunately, she is happy when I am happy, and she figures that with amount of time I spend working on T's, I must be happy with them. So no problems!

Curtains are the same situation in reverse. I do not go shopping for curtains with her, and I don't care what kind of curtains she gets as long as she is happy with them. Ditto for furniture, rugs, etc, I am happy when she is happy.

I would like to have her at least take a short ride, but it would take a lot more than a phone charger!

Nice looking unit.
Mine had a cool little LED voltage display built in so I can monitor the battery.
I found these work for dashcam's too. Just in case you need one. I have so many videos of people puling out in front of me & then stopping with the driver staring at me doing an impression of a goldfish i figured it might be useful, just is case insurance companies want to see what happened.

Too bad they don't make one of those to run off magneto power... if so I would buy one instantly.

Skyler, you can run it off a magneto indirectly. You run it off a battery charged by the mag. I charge my phone that way.

Yes, I could Steve... but i do not use any battery at all. I used to use a lawnmower battery, but after it kept dying, I decided to start and drive by mag and have ever since.

I drive by mag too, and sometimes start that way too, but it's handy having the little battery to charge the phone. The mag charger is very simple. In 2½ years of using it my battery hasn't died yet.

You should be able to use any type of USB device, no matter what it is as the 2nd port has a full 2 amps and is plenty of power for pretty much anything I can think of. The 1st port is only rated at 1 amp.

Which device did you get and where from? It would be good for folks to have multiple sources and options.

You must be running a 12volt system....

Specifications on that unit:
Input Voltage: DC12V-24V
Output Current: 3100mA
Material: Aluminum alloy+PC
Work Temperature: 0~40℃
Output Power: 120W
Output Voltage: 5V
Size: 33*59mm

The one I use takes 6 volts to power it so it works on all cars with 6 volt systems.

Mine runs as low as 5 volts. It does try & warn me that it's below 10 volts sometimes though.
"Well duhh it's a 6 volt system"
I also found an arduino power supply will run on 5 volts & output to the USB but the phone thinks that's "Over voltage" according to the warning that pops up on the screen.

My wife likes to go on Model T drives short or multi day drive and one of the reasons is that she can get away from her phone, a lot of the drives and camping trips that we go on are where there is no cell service. I guess that I am just a lucky boy!

Hi Dennis,

I, too, am a lucky fellow in that my girlfriend really likes riding with me in my Model T. She has attended a couple of all day tours and one with less than inviting weather, 45 degrees and a strong wind. She is a trooper.

Yeah, I will have to get for her some period correct cold weather clothing.
