Thanks Mike, I have seen a few photos of these engines but nothing like this story. I have heard that one of the parts dealers has one of these engines on display. Thanks again!

I've always thought how neat it would be to try dropping a nice little Yanmar 3cyl., 24 HP diesel engine in a T, much like I have in my Cub Cadet Sub Compact tractor. Man it has power and torque! Move's 3' snow drifts several yards wide like they aren't even there. Imagine what it would be like in a model T!!

I always enjoy seeing those. The photos appeared in and article in the Vintage Ford Magazine Vol 2 No.6 and Vol 11 No.4 by Kenneth Schwartz (1967 and 1976). They should be on the discs that are available. I heard that engine is on display at one of our Model T parts vendor's as John said (Lang's or Snyder's?).
Thanks for bringing this up.
Rich

I'm kind of surprised he didn't use fork and blade style conrod pairs, as those were common on motorcycles of the era. I'm wondering if it would have been possible to retain the original ignition... There were 16 magnets, 16 coils, and it divides between 4 and 8 pretty well... Of course the spacing might have been tricky to get it to work on all 8...

I find this kind of interesting, considering Ford ended up buying Lincoln (which made a pretty healthy V8) from Leyland... Maybe that's why he didn't like this - too much competition? Plus Ford wasn't adverse to different takes on his Model T (as is evidenced by the Ford Special racers), as long as they were HIS cars and HIS idea.

Still, it would be a fun motor to put into something... speedster, light roadster, I don't know...

Wow. Thanks for posting this Mikey! :)
Now that's one easy flathead 8 distributer to work on...
Have a '45 in a school bus/dump truck chassis and it's no fun getting down to that distributer.

When I visited Snyder's about ten years ago they had one of these engines on display in their showroom.
