Speedster engine rear main sealing (Non T trans)

I know this has been done, so hopefully someone here can tell me.

I'm trying to run a T engine with T crank with a dry clutch setup (basically like a modern type engine/clutch /trans setup). That means I need to somehow seal the rear main. How can it be done? I have one idea, but you certainly wont be able to plumb alot of pressure to the rear main from the oil pump.

The rear cam bearing area I already have figured out, that was the easy part.

From 6061 billet aluminum 3/4” to start with, attaching to the coil ring bolt pattern and going straight down to form into the oil pan to be made or adapted. You leave a larger than normal hole to go around the crankshaft and supporting material. Next, adapt the T crank to the dry clutch flywheel you are planning to use, (don’t forget pilot shaft bearing) the outside of this is your new sealing surface. Using billet build to the dimensions required for your bell housing bolt pattern. You will have about $475.00 just in the material.

I have a casting pattern if wish to purchase it.

Hope this Helps,

Hank

Hank,

It would be great if you had any pics of the parts and pieces with them on a engine so I could see better what your trying to convey in your message.

At the current moment, my new system is under development so no pictures will be posted until completed but should be very unique. Sorry if I teased you.

Hank

Well, ok then. Anyone else have some real information they are willing to share?

Mike Penserini may be able to shed some light on the subject as well.

Ok- here are a few pictures of my seal setup- pretty much self explanatory. The last picture shows the extended crank flange necessary to position the flywheel properly. The flywheel in this engine is a lightened model A with a V-8 pressure plate. Crank is model A with a full length rear main. I'll post a few more later.

I posted some photos of an engine with this type of conversion over in the other discussion - https://www.mtfca.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10117

Dan, Per our phone conversation a few days ago, you were absolutely right, the pictures are worth a thousand words. THANK YOU!!! I am Definitely still interested in one of these for my "A" crank build.

While thinking about this earlier today for the "T" crank usage, I actually had a similar thought of something that is sort of like yours for the "A" crank. The problem with a "T" crank is there is no real seal surface for a seal to ride on other than the rear flange. But with some calculations I have done that may be perfectly viable.

Thank You Very much again Dan for sharing, I hope you can get a few cast up soon.

Regards

WOW, Those too are great reference. THANK YOU for posting those. All of this is great info to have.

The flywheel housing is Model B, I cant say for sure on the crank not seeing pictures of it, but it could be also a "B" if they whet through the trouble of doing the flywheel housing swap.
