I am trying to get a quote to ship a steering column to TX and thought maybe Fastenal would be a good option. Never used them before.
No steering wheel, just the column. Filled out the online form...got a quote of $232.55 !!!!

I called a spoke with a girl that explained the size was the issue, blah blah.
Does this sound right to those of you who have used them ?
Next stop FedEx !

I have shipped two engine with transmissions half way across country for $125 and $150. Each was on a 4 X 4 pallet. Weight is not the issue, it is the dimensions of the package.
BTAIM, your quote sounds way high.

I shipped 6 wire wheels strapped to a pallet from Washington State to Florida for under $200 with Fastenal. No issues. I'd check with them again, something does not sound right.

Russ, did you look into USPS or UPS? USPS will go up to 130" length plus circumference for the oversize rate.

I was going to try FedEx first, they are usually cheaper for larger items.
I need to find a box it will fit in and go from there. And pop the wheel off.
Thanks, I can't believe it is a correct quote.
I'm thinking maybe $40 with FedEx...

I used them for the first time last year to ship a pallet of fenders. Very satisfied with their service and cost.
One thing they don't tell you out right is that if the parts aren't enclosed in a crate their not insured. Its in the small print.

I sometimes ship long skinny parts in pvc pipe with threaded end caps. Very rigid packaging with no damage. Can be reused for the return shipment too.
