Signs of Spring

Here in the Thumb of Michigan the signs of spring are arriving a little early. The Redwing Blackbirds returned almost two weeks early and other migratory birds are making an appearance. Temps have been above freezing, we've had a string of days with nice blue skies and the Sun actually has some warmth in it. Now, if the mud will only dry up I'll pull the Model T out and truly celebrate the end of winter. Hopefully the rest of you who live in northern climes are seeing some positive changes too.

Here in the approximate geographical center of the lower 48 the birds have been announcing their territories for a couple of weeks, the ten day forecast shows highs all in the sixties, and grass is starting to green. In a couple of weeks the redbuds around Chickasha will be starting to bloom, then here a week or so later.

Redbuds are a nice feature of spring in these parts.

Die Vögel zwitzschern, but haven't seen nor heard the Red Winged Blackbirds yet. They are the true harbingers of spring for sure.
Good to hear they're further north!

When I was in the towing business the two sure signs of spring were increased number of lock outs and old guys on mopeds. Now I listen for the frogs after dark, so far no frogs.

Here, last night, we smelled the first skunk of their amore season! Can't say it is my favorite early sign of spring.

Just like Wayne said, I have been seeing the skunks. That is a sure sign of spring. Also the daffodils are up and have buds about ready to bloom.

No flowers here yet. My wife claims she saw a Robin. Better hurry up and get out there to do some pruning. The cherry tree is ready to pop.

Up here in the near tundra of northern WI winter persists, but there are some signs of spring. The lake has been rumbling underneath the ice. A sure sign the ice is beginning to weaken, the trumpeter swans have started to return to open water, and the piles of snow are gradually shrinking. Bears have also been making periodic forays from their dens. Saw a nice one just south of Superior, WI ambling down a gravel road a week ago. But, being this far north you can bet winter has a couple more blasts in store for us.

We have seen robins, red winged blackbirds, red tail hawks. We are near a tundra swan stop over area and all yesterday the swans were non stop. As many leaving as coming in

First Flicker of the year drummed on my roof this early AM. Thus starts the daily shoo-ing away of flickers from my cabin. Brother, they can do some REAL damage. :(

70º yesterday, 35º at noon today, and the forecast says 27º in the morning. Then back to 76º by Wednesday. It's the spring roller coaster.
