Here are several pictures of these attachments on the upper spindle body when I was rebuilding the front axle parts, the last two are off the vehicle with some stamped info.

Was wondering they are and their purpose back in the day, any input would be great. Thanks

Accessory "anti-shimmy" device - purpose was to minimize or eliminate "The Watussi".

Thank you for the posting. Always another T accessory to learn about. I had a 12 torpedo roadster that would have benefited from these!

Wow! The key word in the advertisement is that’s it’s cheaper than rebushing your front end. But lots of folks would do it for a temporary fix.
Sort of like filling up your tire with green slime instead of actually fixing a flat. And yes I’ve done that!

This is one that I learned from this forum quite some time ago, but this thread might just be another place where it fits:

"Nothing is more permanent than a temporary FIX that works!"

Thanks for posting that add Dan, it is interesting someone designed this accessory and selling it back in the day for a whopping .68, I will probably keep them on now knowing what they do and avoid the "danger and embarrassment"

I have new upper and lower bushings installed.

Cheaper, yes, but by how much?

You have the 0.68 cents for the Shimmie Stoppers, plus whatever the shipping would be. I don't think anyone liked paying for shipping then either. After you get them, whenever that may be, then you need to install them. Or, you go to your local Ford Agent/Dealer and have the front end rebushed for the sum of $4.20. Yes more expensive than the Shimmie Stoppers (a little more than 6 times), but what are you getting for 16% of a dealer repair? For slightly less than 2 sets of the Shimmie Stoppers you would get 2 new Spindle Bolts with oilers, 4 new Spindle Bolt Bushings, 2 new Tie Rod Bolts with oilers and 2 new bushings for the Tie Rod Bolts. I am all for being frugal (or cheap) but I think that I would bite the bullet and pay for the full repair, it is not going to self-correct. And yes, I have used the Green Slime too. Works really well on wheelbarrow, wagon and implement tires.

My 26 Coupe has a set of them on it. Along with the tie rod springs and the spring perch tie downs. The shackles are also installed backwards. I jacked it up to check and everything is pretty loose, including the spokes!! It really does not drive all that bad. However, my next project is the rebuild the front axle.
