Rajo model?
How do I determine which Rajo head I have, I have found a gasket source but don't know which one to order?

Near as I can figure out from that site is what I have is a Model c-35 or possibly the B-8 (but that is doubtful. On mine both the intake and exhaust are on the right side, with the plugs on the left and they are standard T plugs. I believe it is an 8 valve setup. Photo below:

Re: Rajo model?
Most likely a Model 35 - can't see under the manifolds to any verify short bolts Model 30 - if it has conventional head bolts, it's a Model 35.

Re: Rajo model?
Would it take the same head gasket for 30 or 35?
I'm thinking of ordering one from Olsen?
Any special tricks to know when changing the gasket?
This will be my 1st rodeo with a Rajo! all help and tips gratefully accepted

Re: Rajo model?
According to the link above, the 30 had 4 exhaust ports while the 35 only had 3, If that's the case, then mine would be the 35 based on the number of exhaust ports, it only has three.

Re: Rajo model?
I understand all the 8 valve heads, such as RAJO, Frontenac & Roof used the same head gasket. I made heavy cardboard "racks" with "F" (front) & "R" (rear) for my rockers and another # 1 through #8 for the pushrods - all that needs to be removed to clean everything up.

Re: Rajo model?
It is a Model C35. The head gasket used is the same as the Model B cross flow heads and currently offered by the dealers. Nice setup!

Re: Rajo model?
Mark, Rod mentioned in another thread about oil in the cooling system and pressurized oiling.
I assume oil has to get up there to lube the rockers.
Do you have a picture of the oil passage or the gasket ?

Re: Rajo model?
Ruxtell,
I talked to the previous owner today, and he surmised that the oil in the radiator possibly came from the fact that he repacked the water pump before turning the car over to me. ?????
Mark,
Thanks for confirming the C-35 model number. Now I can order a gasket. Either of you have the torque numbers for when I put the head back on?
I've got some Hylomar Blue to use as a sealent (really good stuff).

Re: Rajo model?
Dave,
look at the photo below, note the line going into the valve cover, I think that's the oil source?

Re: Rajo model?
I certainly am not a Rajo expert, but have played with them just a little bit. If I recall what I have been told, and seen, basically all Rajos did not originally have oiling up to the rockers. Most of them had a felt pad under the top cover that was supposed to be oiled every so many miles. The rockers pressing against the felt squeezed oil onto themselves. It was fairly common for a hand pump to put oil up to the top so that the mechanician didn't need to hold the car up at routine stops. He would just give it a couple pumps every so many miles, and tend to the many other maintenance details when they stopped for fuel or a tire change. Spare oil was often carried in a small reservoir near the frame rails or next to the gasoline tank to supply the pump. While some such cars back in the day did have oil lines up to the top supplied by a circulating pump, that is something done a lot more today than it was nearly a hundred years ago.
Another important caution! I don't know all the various "C" models. However, at least one of them does have a design flaw that you MUST be wary of. On some of them, one of the head bolts goes right through one of the head's valve chambers. It does NOT have enough support to torque the head bolt in the manner to which we have become accustomed. A head I did have many years ago had been over-torqued and cracked around the outer casting support about a two inch diameter. Fortunately, for me, I had bought the head for a good price, so was not hurt financially by it. I had wanted to keep it, and had made plans to use it (crack and all), however, I needed the money for another car I was restoring at that time. Took the head to a swap meet at a price high enough that I could really use the money for a quality paint job I was planning on. Someone there wanted the head more than I did, In spite of me showing him the cracks, and my trying to talk him out of it, he paid my asking price. That was the one and only model T over-head valve head I ever owned myself. I have worked on a few belonging to other people over the years.
It was all of 45 years ago. However, if I remember well enough, it had the same intake/exhaust port's pattern your head shows, two intakes, three exhaust.

Re: Rajo model?
This is a RAJO I got some time ago and will use on a speedster. I think it is an early Model 30 but really do not know. It has just one intake port but no bump-out on the left side for the intake. The exhaust manifold connects to a normal Model T exhaust pipe.
Any ideas of the model or intended use (truck?).
