Just a thought. Was going through the pictures and post's of all these. What a great resources for information! Better yet if someone had the time to separate by year and/or state. Just a thought.

Re: Post a photo of your antique Model T License Plate
Your right of course, this thread could be a good resource. Perhaps the easiest way to that end is if all the original posters would edit their original post, and add the following caption to their already posted photos: "year, state, license plate", for example: "1925 Wisconsin License Plate". That way one could use the search feature and search for a year and state license plate, and if it were in this thread, it would show up in the search results. Because this thread was started just as a lark, many folks just posted a photo with a caption like: "here is the plate on my 1926". However, it would be a very minor edit for the original posters to add a caption to their photo, providing the year and state information. As a demonstration, use the search feature to search for 1925 Wisconsin License Plate, and you will see what I mean.Michael Peternell wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 10:39 pmJust a thought. Since only the original poster can edit their own post, each individual poster would need to edit their original post themselves to add this information.

HI All
Nova Scotia, Canada didn't issue regular metal plates until 1918. Between 1907 and about 1912 the government issued metal registration tags to be attached to the dashboard and they were to be returned when the car was sold or scrapped. As a result they are not the easiest to find. The owner was to then make a home made number plate with the registration number to be hung on the front and back of the car. The home made plates appear to be more common than the registration tags.
This one is from 1910 and was originally mounted on a Ford. I was able to look the number in up the old records in the archives to confirm it. So here is a picture of the tag on a photo of the page with the registration info.

Re: Post a photo of your antique Model T License Plate
I will second the Potato comment. I grew up with a garage where a previous owner had tacked up Idaho plates from 1919 into the '40s. It was a kind of shrine to me with the colors and numerals of a different world. At some point in time the '28 potato plate had been discarded for a shelf. Plates were not readily available when I got into cars. Finally a friend found a '28 and gave it to me. Dad had saved late plates and I do have a '48 potato plate too which is also a treasure.

Re: Post a photo of your antique Model T License Plate
Arizona became a state on February 14, 1912 and required motorists to register their car. The first state automobile registration was on September 20, 1912, and a 2" aluminum disc was provided to the motorist when registering the auto. The motorist was required to make a license plate (kits were available) and the numerals had to be at least 3" tall. The plate itself could be made of leather, wood or metal and the state initials had to be on the plate.
Finding an original registration disc today is difficult as only 3300 discs were produced for 1912-1913, but I wanted to have one on my 1913 touring. I made the leather plate and found the "correct" numerals for the plate. Russ Furstnow

It is a nice touch that Tennessee labeled the individual plates: "Front" and "Rear". I always get them mixed up. Plus now you can tell if your Studebaker is coming or going.

Hank, if you put those plates on a TT, you would need a 27 for the front and 28 for the rear.

Picture of an Ontario, Canada 'Eh! license plate from 1912.
The way to authenticate it is on the top of the reverse side.
The plates were produced by the MacDonald Mfg. Co. Limited Toronto.
This is my legal license plate. The HV stands for Historical Vehicle.
The second 'H' could be any letter depending on when the plate was issued.
I think we all know what the 'double O 7' is for.......Heaman,....John Heaman
This is my 1912 Canadian Model T Ford. The rear door handle has been properly put vertical
after this picture was taken. I had a nice plate frame made for the T. Apparently it's gold
plated brass and won't tarnish!?! We'll see.

Re: Post a photo of your antique Model T License Plate
I posted this in response to the picture at the bottom of page 1 showing all the different “size” Wisconsin plates from 1925:
Wisconsin started with low numbers on January 1st and issued plates consecutively. So, generally a “low number” was more likely to be a “carry-over” registration from the previous year (a car older than a particular years license plate) due to the fact that the first quarter of the year isn’t too big for new car sales.
All the WI license numbers up to 1955 are available for anyone to look at on microfilm at the Wisconsin Historical Society archives at the UW Library in Madison. The listings are by plate number and not cross referenced, so you can find out who owned your plate and what it was on, but next to impossible to find the serial number of a car...

Re: Post a photo of your antique Model T License Plate
The plate currently on the Georgia Peach T because that’s where she’s cruised most of her miles. It’s affixed to the front of the 13T because Georgia doesn’t have front plates... you can put whatever you want.

1924, 25, and 26 Michigan license plates
Older photo before I changed the look of the RPU bed: A '26 plate (just sold): Plate on pickup after bed re-do. IMHO ... I prefer the un-restored plates: A ,25 plate for sale ... (I do not know if the color is correct for the year, or not... ):

Dennis looking forward to getting that 26 Michigan plate, thanks.
Looking back on all these plates I did not see any from "Vacationland". Well a few weeks ago a neighbor was moving and as he was departing he dropped this off, not bad for 100 years +

Re: Post a photo of your antique Model T License Plate
Mr Rofe was the local Ford Dealer in the New Zealand town of Marton. When car licences (registration) first occurred it was done by the local municipalities- in this case the district of Rangitikei. The town clerk managed to get 'R 1', but Charles Rofe was next in line and got R 2. At the time one could paint the number on the car or make up your own plate, so what better way to advertise than a Ford number plate?
The plate is brass, the R 2 is copper and the bright work is German Silver.
If there is an enthusiast (preferably in N.Z.) that would like to purchase the plate, Let me know by P.M.
Dane.

I have a 24 and these came with a lot of tags I bought a few years ago. Unfortunately, I think the one is too far gone to restore.

My 1920 Runabout. At one time, Pennsylvania required two plates.
Now, it's just one. Have both front and back on.

Re: Post a photo of your antique Model T License Plate
I’ve won more than a few beers from Texas license plate “experts” who said the state didn’t place the date on 1923 plates. Well, the state didn’t - except for Dealer plates. Hence the ‘D’ on the set.....
And the first state issued plate in Texas was 1917. Prior to that date towns issued license plates like this Dimmit plate. But it’s really a fake; a movie set prop found in my turtledeck after filming the first series of ‘The Son’. Local law enforcement loves it tho’

I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people

Someone told me that the unusual colour ('26 Ca were blue) means it was a government car.

Here is a photo of my shop 50 State License Plate Wall. While there are several antique plates, the Pennsylvania State Plate is the only true Model T era license plate.

On our '22 Center Door. Cost us 16 bucks, one time cost, to register the YOM tag in Alabama. Funny thing is the tag expiration is 12/31/9999! I hope the car is still around then, I know I won't be!
Stay tuned, I recently received info on prior ownership of the car and will need help from you Forum folks to help me track down the additional details.

Re: Post a photo of your antique Model T License Plate
I bought a YOM plate on Ebay for the '14 Touring. It looks like original paint to me. I did nothing to it but clean & wax it to preserve the finish. This plate was embossed from the front rather than from the rear which makes the numbers have a foggy cloud-like look.

Here is the '23 with its CA YOM plates bought at the Long Beach club swap many years ago. It is mostly an original finish but I did touch it up here and there.

Re: Post a photo of your antique Model T License Plate
Here is the same '23 with the OR YOM plates. The rear plate has the original paint, the front has been repainted. These plates were in the turtle deck when I bought the car in SoCal years ago. The OR DMV said the car had been previously registered in OR with those plates in the past!

Found this gem in a box full of plates at what used to be a real live, old fashioned hardware store here in town. My collector plates ride under the floor mat. The police have smiled and waved a dozen times, no beef yet. I don't think it'll hold up much longer though.....
