This is wire wheel rear hubs. Do you tighten then back off to the nearest key slots? Seems to be a crapshoot with the course slots on the nut. I don't want to overtighten as threads on the axle are not the greatest shape. Also keyslots will not be deep enough to get a cotter pin into. Close, but may need to file slot a little deeper. What do you guys think?

Some know of a particular torque amount but I tighten them a lot with a 18” breaker bar and DON’T back off to the nearest castellation but ease up to it. Make sure the inside of your hub is derusted and clean.

You can sand or grind a bit off the back side of the nut. A little at a time as to not go too far.

I wouldn’t use a axle if I didn’t trust the threads!!

It’s not that bad but I don’t want to pull threads any further by taking it to the next tooth. Seems too extreme. I may try a couple different nuts and see where they fall. I haven’t used a torque wrench yet, but will.
I have had model A hubs off and on several times and the T is a little different.

Check that your keys have not moved up the axle and wedging the hub, keeping it from seating properly on the taper. A good trick is to use superglue to hold the keys where they belong when you slide the hubs on.

I may pull the hub again and check the key. It did slip once and I pulled it. Felt like it seated good the last time. I am also using your hubs Dan. They are fitting up fine and nothing binding
