N/R/S race cars?

Post by Atomic Amish » Thu Mar 26, 2020 7:20 am

Rob's awesome history of Ford posts got me to thinking- we see a lot of history from the beginning of Ford Racing (Sweepstakes, 999, the Arrows) and later (The Ford Specials, coast to coast car, etc.) but very little about N/R/S vehicles used for racing.

On the EFR forum, I posed the same question, and got a response about one in Australia. Anyone got any from this side of the pond?

Would love to see anything that's out there on the topic.

Thanks!

Jason,
I have a few others, but these two probably received the most attention nationally as racers, in part because their six cylinder brother set a world record in this race. Ford reported they are Model R, and the one on our left looks like it may have a flat top McCord oiler:

Leo, Abraham Lincoln would have been 98 years old at the time these Ford’s ran in the 24-hour race. I’m often surprised to find civil war veterans of both sides driving our early Fords and other pre-war cars. It puts things in perspective and demonstrates the ties our cars and we have with events that happened so long ago.

A love of history, and understanding the lives of those who went before are probably the reasons I enjoy early cars.

Very nice addition to the long run of early Ford racing!
