New leather spring pads, oil or dry?
Getting ready to install new leather spring pads (front and rear) and thought I would pose this question: Install the pads dry or oil soaked? Any and all thoughts/opinions are appreciated. I would assume that they were installed dry, but what would be the negatives of having them oiled (aside from the oil dripping down the spring face over time)?

I would oil them. If they go in dry, they most likely will eventually soak up water, cause rust, etc. If they're oiled, it will repel water and prevent rust. That's my theory anyway...

You can saturate spring pads and oil will not likely run off. Generously oiling the pads is a good idea. Use neatsfoot oil if that’s handy, better for leather, but motor oil will do. It just won’t absorb as readily.

I hadn't thought of doing that, but I agree with the others that it sounds like a good idea. I'll be doing it in the future. Thanks for bringing it up.
