I pulled the head off on my 26 because of low compression. I was thinking that I also had a head gasket problem like Steve. It was ok, so looking at rings and valves. I turned the engine over to center all of the pistons then put a cap full , approximately 3 tablespoons, of diesel into each cylinder and waited. At 15 minutes #3 cylinder was empty. Three hours and the others still have fluid in them. I’ll pull that one and see what’s going on.

Well I'm no expert mechanic by any means, but looks like a ring job's in order. And also an oil change!!

Cylinder rings are always rotating, it is possible on that cylinder they are aligned, pull the piston and see? You are down this far why not rering it while you are there.

Also since it is a 26-7 block take a close look at exhaust valve are going into the cylinder, 75% of those blocks have crack issues there. Hope this helps.
