sand blast discovery!

You experienced guys might know this already.
It is very frustrating sand blasting in a booth that is very foggy, even with two lights in the upper rear corner. Today an idea came to me to blast with one hand and hold a flashlight on the metal with the other hand. And what a great difference that made.
I still have to look through the beveled edge to see, but at least I can see when using a flashlight!
Easter blessing! Just another reminder to praise God!

Robert,
I guess you are talking about what I call a "Blast Cabinet" Depending on the size of it & how often you use it, you may want to invest in a vacuum system for it. I have a TP Tools 960 that came with the Vac system.
If it is a smaller one, you may think about cutting a hole in the side of it & put in a flange to hook your shop vac up to it. That will remove your "fog" so you can see better!
God Bless & Happy Easter!
Bill

Thank you Bill! I forgot about the vacuum because it never worked well. I guess I have to invest in a better vacuum.

Put a magnetic 4 foot led light from TP tools in my blast cabinet and I can finally see what I am doing.

Just a plain shop vac will not do a good job. It will get over loaded fast. You need one with a prefilter. Grainer use to sell a kit to add a prefilter that worked good. Dan

Very true, I should have mentioned that if you are going to use the shop vac, you need to (at the very least) make the opening baffled or it will suck in a bunch of sand! LOL

After Robert posted this yesterday, I got to thinking that the last couple times I used my Blast Cabinet, it was a little hard to see so today I changed the lens on the view window.....What a difference!
Here is also a picture of the vacuum system on the side of the Skat Blast 960 from TP Tools in Canfield, Ohio. If anybody is thinking about buying one, I can highly recommend this brand.
God Bless

Since I was using my blast cabinets today, I took a couple pictures of my dust collector. Dan

Awesome Dan!
Do you get much sand in the bottom drawer? just wondering because I have never had to empty my collector bag. I thought I would get more in there.
God Bless

Lots of dust, very little grit. I do not use sand , very bad for your health. Very dangerous to use sand. Dan

Thanks Dan.
I have been using sand for 40+ years & not going to stop now, especially when it is $7.00 a bag vs $35-45 for the other stuff. I have soda & glass for other things, but I am sure I got worse exposure doing probably 500 brake jobs & painting 200 or so cars in my life.
God Bless

I am using "sand blasting grit" in my cabinet. Shiny black stuff originally.
What is the issue you are alluding to? I don't want to screw up my cabinet as I haven't had it that long.

Using sand in a blast cabin has nothing to do with hurting the equipment.
It has to do with something called silicosis. This comes from breathing Silica dust, from sand.
https://www.webmd.com/lung/what-is-silicosis#1
I was plant engineer at a plant where we did sandblasting day in and out. You would not believe what a company that does sandblasting has to do to prevent silicosis.
Just a warning. Hope it helps. Dan
