Re: Speedsters
This is my speedster with a Rajo Over head valve that was manufactured in about 1923 with out the heat riser. The engine is coupled to a C 4 automatic. About 10 years ago I had the opportunity to dino the car and it came up to about 100 HP at the fly wheel. The engine is full pressure with insert rods and mains. Tom

This is Ricky which my son-in-law and I built in 1992 before they had kids. It’s been updated a little over the years but is still fun to drive. Last major trip out was the MTFCA Tour in Richmond.

Wow, about fifty years ago, we had a club get-together at a friends house. He had a solid original speedster pickup sitting between his driveway and his house. Not much more than a frame and the body, but very original, and very nicely built. The seat was set to just above the frame, nicely done wooden framework, gasoline tank in the forward end of a pickup box. The whole thing looked professionally made, framed and smooth sheet steel bends and compound curves throughout. Leadwork finished it off beautifully.
I asked him about it a few times over the years. He said he was hoping to do something with it someday. He did also have a really nice T speedster that he drove on club tours and Endurance Runs often for many many years.
The only thing I ever saw that it reminded of (or reminded me of it?) was one of those fancy Chevrolet SSR sport trucks they manufactured for a short while almost twenty years ago.
I do hope someone has saved it somewhere. I would really like to see it restored to what it had been.

Re: Speedsters
I assembled the engine on this speedster pickup some years ago. The owner likes to fiddle around with it having modified the body several time and tried several carbs and intake manifolds. The mechanicals seemed to have settled down during the last few months but the pickup body it still subject to changes. Nice car and used almost daily, not a trailer Queen like mine.

Re: Speedsters
Gorgeous. I wonder how they did the two tone wood running board? Is it 3 pieces of wood or just a dark walnut stain stripe down the middle?

Re: Speedsters
I have really enjoyed the speedster's posts. Most of the cars were assembled from almost nothing to start with, truly a re-creation. I know it isn't how Henry did it but it has been going on since the birth of our cars. Even Henry raced stripped down cars. I enjoyed building my car and love to drive it. I'm sure this is the case for most of these cars. Thank you all for sharing.

Re: Speedsters
I love this car! Clayton and I built her several years ago for my dad as a Christmas present, but he assed away before we finished it. We finished it any way and decided to drive it to Bonneville Salt Flats for Speed Week in 2012. The last picture was taken on I-84 eastbound with Clayton chasing me in his 1926 roadster moment before I blew the crank doing 65 mph. Clayton made it to Bonneville I didn’t. Due to teething problem with the new motor it sits waiting it turn to be re activated hopefully this spring.

Re: Speedsters
Most know Clayton’s roadster we built both our cars together. Clayton’s roadster has been all over the place from Speed Week, TROG east coast and west coast, to a car museum down sacramento way to Jay Leno’s garage in Burbank. What a new life for what was intended as a parts car he bought from my dad on whim.

This is a 26 I have had in storage for several years. I got it out this week to get it running. Put in a new battery , fresh fuel and it started right up. Good to see it running again.

I agree! I never knew so many existed. After working on ours, and looking at each photograph of each car, there has to be a cumulative hour amount of years with all of these great looking cars!Norman Kling wrote: ↑Sat Feb 06, 2021 10:42 amWow! Re: Speedsters
For the folks that posted pictures of their cars under construction, how many have finished them and are on the road now? How about some updated pictures, or pictures from folks that haven't seen this post in the past?
We are up at nearly 11,000 miles now and just having fun driving around our quaint little town.

Thank you,

Edit:
After fiddling around with this post I have figured out how, and added pictures of our speedster. My longest trip so far was to Indialantic Beach one Sunday when everyone at home was sick. It took seven hours at 32 mph up and back on A1A. For those that don't know Florida, A1A follows the beach on the east coast. I grew up next door to this car as a child and my neighbor restored it before I was born and finished when I was around four years old. I have always wanted the car (since I was around 4) and was able to purchase it recently. I brought it to Florida in June of last year and from our gps and non-gps trips, I estimate we have put just a little over 7,000 miles on it since bringing it home in June.

Re: Speedsters
My 1926 is a long term speedster project, but it’s back on the front burner. I have been collecting speed parts for almost 30 years (Rajo BB head, Dayton wire wheels, Muncie transmission, Bosch front plate distributor, Stipe 180 cam among other things). I am building a mahogany skiff body. I made some from axle drop brackets and designed my own rear drop brackets. Some shots in project. I am pushing hard to get it on the road.
