FP Pinion Bearing Questions

I am in the process of rebuilding my large drum Ruckstell axle. I will be reassembling the driveshaft soon with the Fun Projects modern pinion bearing assembly. After reviewing the instructions, I have a couple of questions:

1. The instructions state to dip the roller cone bearing in rear end grease before placing it onto the driveshaft. It later states that this bearing is lubricated by the grease in the differential housing. I have heard of thick rear end oil referred to as grease before, but in the case of the Ruckstell, 90W weight oil is used. Should I dip the bearing in 90W oil or something else?

2. The instructions do no state anything about using Loctite on the collar set screw. This seems like good insurance to me but wanted to know if this is a recommended practice. If so, which Loctite should be used?

Out on a limb with this comment as to what was meant by rear end grease. Could be just a general term meaning what ever lube you will be using in the rear end. When I do Model a rear ends I use the same lube that I will be using later, in this case 600W. I would pre lube with what ever lube you are going to use in the rear end. 90, 600 or 120 will cling and stay in place till the unit is put into service. That is what will be doing the job later anyway.
Be sure to follow the part of the instructions about pre fitting the T-tube/driveshaft to pinion housing to check for interference between the collar and housing.

I used Loctit on the set screw. Also be sure to set the U-Joint clearance on the bushing at the front. Some say its not needed but good insurance in case the collar does slip.

The U-joint needs to be setup and riveted to the shaft. It keeps it centered in relationship to end of transmission and drive shaft.

After I got the preload set and the collar tight, I had to grind a little off the side of the collar bolt to clear the inside of the tube.

It was the irregular inside of the tube that was the problem, so that's where I did the grinding. Some tubes have that problem, and some don't.

I know that's rather, um, "species-ist" of me, but I liked the answers better when you could sit with the other members over a beer or cuppa coffee, not the ones generated in a computer mainframe plugged into Timbuktu, and claiming to be in some other city to "appear" human.

I wonder if we can come up with some kind of identification ruse or scheme (better than the "select all boxes containing CLOUDS" which the AI can easily defeat) to insure the person who posts here is, say, a real PERSON???

The sad thing is people respond to the Bot posting without any regard for how old the original post subject is and seemingly without really reading the useless info the Bot is posting. Desperate for high # of post I guess.

Add them to your Foe list and you will not have to see the next 3 post the Bot makes.
