Old wall mounted phone
I have an old wall mounted phone that was converted to a rotary dial. It works very well. If someone has an interest in this item, I would like to sell. I would like $200.00 and the cost of shipping. I will take pictures if this phone if someone is interested. 503 644-nine three seven four. Tom Elliott

Re: Old wall mounted phone
The last I knew AT&T still allowed use of rotary phones. Some other systems won't allow it. I can receive calls on my rotary, but I have to use a modern phone to call out.
The inevitable often happens.

I don't know how much longer the infrastructure will support it, but with a secondary push button dialer, one can still use the old dial phones.

Re: Old wall mounted phone
Upstate NY we have dial phones and a party line. Unfortunately, the young maintenance people working for the phone company don't know how to deal with a party line so I guess it won't be long before they make us switch over.

Old Rotary Telephone
A old copper pair. wired phone system will still work. The central telephone Office processes both touch tone and pulse/Rotary. But if You have ATT U Verse. Magic Jack. vonage.sprint.comcast.infinity or any of the other VOIP phone system's that uses a computer or web router. The old rotary/ pulse phones wont work. Yes I remember party lines and their modern cousin selective calling. two shorts and a long those were the days. and the phone would still work during a power outage.

Re: Old wall mounted phone
That's why we still have the rotary phone. We have frequent electric outages and no cell phone coverage so without a rotary dial phone we'd be screwed. Last year a young man who was lost stopped at our house and asked to use the phone because he had no cell phone service. I handed him the rotary dial phone and watched in amusement as he proceeded to jab his finger into the dial holes without rotating the dial. After a few attempts he handed the phone back to me and said the phone was not working. He watched in amazement as I dialed the number he gave me and handed him the phone.
