Is June's California "T" Tour doing enough to protect against Covid-19?
-
Even though the Shelter in Place Order expires on May 31st at 11:59 PM,
our June 1st Golden Gate Tour is still taking Covid-19 seriously.
Protective supplies coming along with us will be distributed in our sterilized plastic tour bags.
Hand Sanitizer, 99.9%
Anti Viral Wipes, 99.9%
Single Use Gloves
Single Use Masks
We will be covering our coughs and sneezes with something other than with our hand.
We will be washing our hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and/or applying hand sanitizer.
We will be sterilizing all surfaces we expect to come in contact with.
We will loosely gather away from all non tour participants.
Each evening's "Bring Your Own Cocktail" parking lot party will prohibit sharing and will maintain 6 ft minimum social distancing.
Dinners will be delivered and served by only one "scrubbed down" server. Also everyone maintaining 6 ft minimum social distancing.
Lunches will be preordered and be picked up individually by each couple from on-tour restaurants and eaten on our running boards, continuing to observe 6 ft minimum social distancing.
Model Ts while on the road will maintain 6 ft minimum social distancing.
There will be a tour long moratorium on hugs, handshakes, face touching, and high-fives. However, smiles and kind words will be permitted.
There will be symptom screening interviews of participants on June 1st and again 14 days post tour. This data to be shared with the Marin County Health Dept.
We will be keeping positive attitudes as we meander over these 6 days through Coastal Marin County and the Alexander Valley wine region. And, as Donnie Brown recommends, we will be bringing our "common sense".
And we will follow any other CDC or local protocols that may present themselves.
Do any of you out there have any further suggestions on how to help make this a safer tour?
Besides "just not going" of course.

Sounds like your group is doing everything they can to make it as safe as possible. Wish we could go, but it's just too far away for us. The main thing for all participants to bring with them is "common sense".
Have fun and be safe.

I wonder if I can use hand sanitizer to remove grease from my fingers?

Ed brings up a very good, if not awkward, point and it concerns me. That is 'on tour' bathrooms.
I have pre-run all 6 routes and have been worried about this nonavailability of public restrooms. We don't yet know which National or State Parks will be open to us, if any. We will be out in rural countryside 90% of the time. And, fast-food bathrooms are currently not open. For those of us who are NOT able to make due with a roadside bush, I am wondering if we might consider bringing along one of those collapsible bedside commodes (like on a rafting trip) with a supply of disposable liners? Maybe one of those pop-up privacy curtains too? These are unique times that we tour in and require creative thinking because the alternative is just staying home.
Do any of you have any further thoughts on this awkward detail?

That, and another gallon or two of sanitizer is probably the best thing you could do! Yeah, we are living in an "interesting time". (Reference an ancient Chinese combination blessing and curse.)

What strikes me about this discussion is the rationality of the participants. On FB it would have veered off into Loony Land, with radical political theories and demented memes. Well done. Carry on.
The inevitable often happens.

Steve,
You are correct! This was on topic until you posted;)
Perhaps each day you could rotate who is “COVID positive”. That person would keep track of anytime someone is less then 6 feet of them, touches an object that then touch, use the restroom that they use, etc. The next day the violators will get 15 minute penalty for each violation.
You asked for suggestions- I gave you one. I imagine that you will pass on the idea, but on the tour you would like to put some folks in the penalty box!
