New Day Timer install question

I bought a (new) new day timer from one of the vendors and am working on the install. One question I have is about the black "spacer" washer that was included. I assume this goes between the brush assembly and the timer cover in order to provide some standoff. My question is that this spacer is very thin material, and is not solid but is instead a formed or stamped piece. I can easily deform it when I tighten the timer nut. So, how tight do I tighten the nut? Or is that not where this piece goes?

That ring is the retainer for the pin. The timer currently on your car should also have a retainer.

Install in the following order on the camshaft:

- brush
- pin
- retainer
- nut

Thanks Erik, that was also a consideration I had. So that means the brush assembly will rub a little on the cover?

The only washer I'm aware of is the one that holds the pin in place. You tighten the nut on it all the way. The cover has a space for the nut and retainer. The only part that contacts the cover is the spring-loaded brush.

Ok, assembled it as Erik said and once squared up with a tight nut, the brush does not rub. Looks good now. Thanks Erik!
