Language Packs installed

Post by ChrisB » Mon May 25, 2020 12:26 pm

We had a problem with the US-English pack the other day which I fixed.

Then I thought I would install some of the language packs of members I knew from outside North America.

This is what I have installed so far.

If you are in another country that is not listed and would like your language installed let me know.

Chris

PS I looked for Australian English but couldn't find one!

Hi Chris,

Danish tested and it looks good.

I know there are folks from Sweden as well, but most Scandinavian have no big issues (unless they are over 60 - 70 :-) ) with reading english.

I've announced the initiative in the Danish Model T clubs Facebook group.

I installed the Dutch for a few days and thought that it also looked good. I eventually went back to American English so I wouldn't have to keep making the mental switch back and forth as I moved through the forum. I gather the translations were done in the relevant countries, which would explain the quality.

Maybe you can put in NZ English. Australia probably hasn't got theirs written yet. :)

I checked my file and it said British English. Do I now have to learn what a boot and a bonnet is, and spell colour with a 'u'?

Remember Fantasy Island? Tatoo announces at the start,

"Da plane, da plane"

In Aussie it's

"Da pline, da pline"

Chris, if you are looking in an alphabetical listing for Australian English, it will be just above Canadian English. As for New Zealand English, It's the same as ours, except that they only use one vowel, i.e. substitute a U for every vowel, as in Fush Und chups!

Chris, you are much more clever than people give you credit for. You caught on to Magyar as being Hungarian immediately. Thank you. I have been trying to contact a model T someone/anyone in Hungary for a while to meet with in October but no one is willing to reply to my emails. I even sent several emails to Bruce Balough since he has contacts there but no reply. I will keep trying. Frank

Sorry Frank, the Hungarian language pack is not up to the version we use.

Quote from the language pack page:
Please make sure you have the right version for your board. Packs for 3.0 will not work on 3.1/3.2 and vice versa.

We are on 3.2.8

That language pack was last updated in 2012 and works for versions 3.0.x

I know this is OLD.
Is there a Portuguese pack?
We have friends in the southern hemisphere (Brazil/Argentina) that love these T's and IF I'm correct, their prime language is Portuguese?
Thanks for this consideration Chris.

Steve, I googled South American official languages. They are indeed principally Portuguese and Spanish, plus smaller numbers of English, French and Dutch. The last one caused a bit of consternation here six years ago. The World Pediatric Project brings children primarily from the Caribbean and Central America to St. Louis for free treatment at several (mostly orthopedic) hospitals: Shriners Hospital, St. Louis Children's Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. WPP has a number of Spanish-speaking volunteers, since many of the mothers and patients who come here don't speak English. Then they had a 16-year-old patient from Paramaribo in Suriname who was here for back surgery at Shriners. Surprise, WPP! They speak Dutch in Suriname. The mother spoke reasonable English, but not up to a level for a conversation with a surgeon about how the operation had gone. They found me through the local Dutch community and I ended up helping while they were here. My Dutch is pretty good, but the medical back-and-forth was a challenge. Everything went well and, as the surgeon mentioned after the operation, the patient is taller now. :D
