Help I’d?

Post by Speedo1 » Fri Jun 05, 2020 5:31 pm

So I came into some parts. I believe this door to be a 26-27 passenger front door from a Fordor: 24 1/4 “ across belt line, 47 1/2 hinge side, 46 5/8 striker side. What say ye?

I have two doors like that i believe they fit a ford tuck I can show you a picture of a 27 fordor door and it does not look like yours which is why i use the one like yours as a donor door skin. mine that i took the skin off of does look like yours and the outer skin is the same as the fordor the inside is different.

That would be great. I thought it looked like a front Fordor from pics I looked at, but, obviously I’m not sure.

I could be totally wrong, but it looks a lot like the right hand door for a 1928 or 1929 Model A closed cab pickup.

Dan you are exactly right it is however that skin will fit the 27 fordor car if you need to re-skin a door ask me how I know.

I just looked up and found a couple of photos of original 28-29A PU doors and the inner door structure is completely different than mine, hmmmmmmm

This is from the 1926 body book. '26 Fordor and coupe. I hope it helps some.

For reference, this is a '25 steel door which the later ones evolved from.

Rich, thank you so much. My inner structures look exactly like the 1926 Fordor, which I originally thought. Now I just would like to confirm measurements from an actually known 26-27. 🤙

Oh damn.... I just double checked. Door also looks like the 25! So next big question: what’s the difference between the 25 and 26-27 all steel doors?

The '25 door shown does not have the reinforcing beads that fan out from the window riser impression. Sorry my photos aren't better. I was swinging from the rafters to get what I did.
Here is another poor photo. I would say your original guess is correct. '26-'27 Fordor.

As often happens each answer raises 3 more questions. I recalled some other doors and just took photos of them. The first one shows no extra beads as I mentioned most recently.
Door4.jpg
The next pair of doors have the beads like your door. I had always thought they were '25 doors. Now I am puzzled.
Doorz3.jpg
My though is that perhaps late the '25 doors are in fact the same as the 26-27 doors.
Aside from that, In looking at your photo of #9 showing the door handle I see it is the bakelite handle with nickled ends. I have always thought those to be 24-25 which would make your door that. I guess I'm not really helping am I?
There are some real experts who know much more about these things but may be no longer watching the Forum. I can't recall their names but will look.
At this point I would say your door is '25 now but those bakelite handles could have been carried over or even been changed.
I'll look for some names and other threads.

Here is a discussion of door handles. http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/59 ... 1460753674
I you go down to "David Sosnoski on Friday, April 15, 2016 - 06:50 pm:" he has his opionion on the handles which sounds like your handle is not a 26-27 the way I read it.

Me again. Iv'e taken an interest. I just measured 2 doors. One with no extra beads (next to last photo) 24'' at bead, 46 5/8 long and 47 1/2 long.
Last photo door at right 24 1/8" at bead, 46 3/4 long and 47 1/2 long. These are a little beat up and may account for the differences but seem fairly close to yours. my 47 1/2 is at the striker side so you might recheck yours. That being said yours is the same as both that I had thought were 1925. If nothing else, bumping this to the top these last times may get someone with good info to see it. I have always thought these doors were the same a the '25 coupe even though the parts book shows different numbers. But that may be an invalid assumption also.

Thank God!!! Now I don’t feel so bad about being confused, lol. Like I said, the more I try to do, do diligence, in research, the more I have questions lol

When you figure it out, I think I have its twin. I assumed mine was 26-27 because is has the same handle and beading as 26-27 coupe. It's definitely not a 26-27 coupe or 28-29 pickup (which are the same door) because they are 29" wide at the beltline.

So I confirmed my measurements for front door: 24 1/4” across belt line, 47 1/2” jamb side, 46 5/8” hinge side.
Also, all three door handles are the nickel plated with the bakelite insert

With those handles I would say that they are 26-27 doors. I was wrong in thinking I saw the bakelite with nickled ends handle in your second photo.
