dash (firewall) rain gutter / drip strip
I posted a WTB thread in the classifieds looking for these parts, but I don't know much about them, so I figured I'd post here on the main board to try to gain knowledge.
I recently purchased a "rain gutter" for my wood dash '23 center door. In reading about that piece, I learned that there should be two vertical pieces - one on each side of the wood dash, below the hood hinge notches, between the cowl lacing and the wood itself. They appear to be little more than sheetmetal with a right angle bend, and some nail holes, but I can't find ANY pictures of those pieces off a car, or even pictures specifically of those "drip strip" or "drip edge" pieces on a car.
Can anybody enlighten me ?

They are called caps. And we’re installed to keep the laminated wood from separating. Simple in design, approx 5/16” x 3/4” x 1/4” C channel from 20 gauge sheet metal.

The first photo you posted is my 1917 roadster.
In 1917 the metal cap did not have a gutter and is not correct for 1923.
Don't know what year the gutter was added to the cap but I'm sure your '23 should have a gutter. You'd have to do some research.

Re: dash (firewall) rain gutter / drip strip
On our Canadian sourced cars those trim strips are made of very thin material, not much heavier than the tinplate used in food containers. The folded over edges are only 1/8 - 3/16" wide. I had an idea they were not nailed on separately before the hood welting was fitted. Rather, the hood welting nails performed a dual purpose.
I could be wrong on the nailing.

it's not the top piece I'm looking for (I already bought one - with the rain gutter), it's the side piecesErik Johnson wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 7:36 pmThe first photo you posted is my 1917 roadster.

Here is one of the side pieces on what appears to be an original firewall.

Re: dash (firewall) rain gutter / drip strip
Here is a photo of mine on the 18. I was able to re-use my metal and the nails when I installed a new wood firewall. Took some work to get the nails out. (keeping with the old look).

Re: dash (firewall) rain gutter / drip strip
Rather than year specific, I believe they are firewall specific. They were part of the wooden firewall installation. My known original 22 model tourer had them. Once the steel firewall was introduced, there was no need for them. So, when was the steel firewall introduced?

Re: dash (firewall) rain gutter / drip strip
If I remember my reading the steel firewall was introduced in April of '23.
My car is December '22.
I also have heard tonight of an all original late '22 center door that has them.
