A part found- what is it?

Post by Bill Robinson » Thu Jun 11, 2020 10:30 pm

A friend found this small brass looking plaque and I thought someone on the forum might know it's source. His description: "The size can be estimated by the size of the quarter. It’s about 1/8 inch thick, and the it looks like the back side has a coating of solder on it."
Does anyone know this part's original usage?

I'm pretty sure it is a Model A Ford radiator shell emblem

It looks like the hood emblem from an 8N Ford tractor.

Charles says the badge appears to be copper.

I thought the Model A radiator shell emblems were steel with blue porcelain - except 31 which were painted I think. But still steel.

If Model A it should be 2 31/32 wide and 1 15/32 tall. Or so I think.

I vote for 8N or 9N emblem.

Now you just need a tractor to go with it, but make sure you get a PTO clutch when you hook the bush hog up to it!!!

Looks like a tractor badge minus the chrome plating.

It's a Model A badge.

It's spent a long time in the ground.

The blue cloisonne (porcelain) is gone.

They were nickel or chrome plated over copper or brass. You can see evidence of this on my example where the porcelain is chipped.

The solder on the back is for the stud.

Here is a 1932-35 Ford truck badge.

Note the copper/brass where the cloisonne is missing.
