Ford accessory Stop/Tail light parts ???

Post by Moxie26 » Tue Jun 23, 2020 3:09 pm

Duh.... Well today I changed light bulbs. Put them in turned the power on and check to see if they light and I see smoke coming up. So lights got shut off very quick. Turns out the center terminal insert that goes in the spring for the tail light is missing and the spring was grounding out. Are there there replacement terminals available or do we modify ?????

Nix on new replacements, that center brake lamp socket is special animal, as it also feeds the tail lamp socket.

Looks like you are looking for parts for the accessory tail/stop for your 26 roadster? Those Ford dual function tail lights were similar to the 28/29 Model A commercial lights. You might want to contact Bratton's Model A Parts. They sell a Duolamp reproduction unit that is similar to your Ford unit. Perhaps they could help you find a replacement component that works?

With closer inspection today, and remembering when I first installed this light about 15 years ago the positive terminals resembled spring loaded posts. All that remains of the tail light socket is the spring without the movable post. For years I've used a single contact bulb and worked fine for the tail light but looking closer it may have called for a a two terminal bulb of which only one of the terminals is really being used. What number bulb do you use for this application?

Robert, as with the previous part that I helped you with, I may be able to help. If you just need a bulb; that's one thing, but if something self destructed in the lamp housing, that's not going to be something that you can buy, anywhere.

Terry; bulbs really aren't the problem here it's just that like what you said if the socket itself has gone bad there's really nothing to replace it. Those spring pins have seen better years... One side is missing on the Bakelite connector side and missing a pin on the bulb side... Just have the spring. Noticing the spacing on those terminals wouldn't lead a thought that a double contact bulb is used for the tail light, but a single contact bulb does work in that socket position. .... Terry, I do appreciate all the help that you have given.....Bob J.

Bob, I may have an old rusted out Dodge Brothers light that you can have for the postage that you can swipe the needed socket from.

Terry, Life has gotten in the way right now.... The electrical connections for the tail light section is still a problem.
