How much slop is too much?

I got the hogshead and crankcase off today and began inspecting the transmission.
The low and reverse drums have some slop, but how much is too much?

And what does that condition indicate? Might it have something to do with the brass rivets I found floating around the crankcase? I also found a small washer with a string tied to it . . .
The brake drum seems solid, except for the massive gouge, but at least the it's sort of in the center, so there's that . . .
This started out as a valve job . . .

Rocking the drums like that is only the lash in the triple gears, that's normal. the brass rivets are out of the bands and the brake drum groove is from band rivets, you can live with that also. What you need to be checking is the clearance of the bushings and for cracks in the drums.

Kind of looks to me that someone in the past used steel rivets on the band lining on that brake drum.

Looks pretty much normal for a T transmission in its normal used time of life. Drum scores are fairly common caused by rivet gouges. Could be someone used steel rivets or didn’t do a good job in seating the rivets to the bands when they were installed. The play or lash looks pretty normal. Could be tighter for a newly overhauled transmission but yours is typical after it has some miles on it.
Not a big surprise finding little bits of this and that in a engine that’s nearly 100 years old.
If you intend to check your drums now would be the time to disassemble your transmission and install new bushings if needed while seeing if the drums are cracked.
Don’t be surprised if you find minor cracks. If there are any no telling how long they have been there. More than a few T’s have them and haven’t been found yet. They can run for years with them.

Well this is all a big relief.
Thank you all for all the help!
