TT Truck Running Boards

Does anyone know when the TT running boards switched to the 'boot scrapper' style? Was that early '26 or did that come in in '25?

I'm getting set to dive into a '25 project (June '25, since I've got the engine) and I'm taking inventory, so I've got several TT parts questions that I haven't figured out already, but I'll try and space them out so I don't flood the forum with little nitpicking questions

Jeff, I THINK the boot scraper running boards came out in '24 with the introduction of the high radiator. I could well be wrong, I'm sure others will chime in here. Dave

Like David, I too THINK it was about 1924. You must remember that old style parts were used up until gone, then the newer style was introduced into production. This suggests that the boot scraper style may nor have appeared everywhere at the same exact time.

My ‘24 with a high radiator has short running boards. It’s not inconceivable that these were not original to the vehicle. Based on my research, the change over to boot scraper appears to have occurred late ‘24 or early ‘25.

I really like TT trucks, but have never owned one. My question is was the C cab offered in 26-7 along with the closed cabs?

I'm the caretaker of a "family owned since new" Dec. '23 (1924 model) TT C-Cab Express - it has the shorter running boards.

It looks like they appear in the parts book starting Dec. 1925. So maybe a mid-year '25 change (?) There were some changed made mid-25 when the close cab came out, so maybe early 25 (?) I'm not sure how much lag there is between a part showing up on a car and it appearing in the parts book

I've been looking at pictures of closed cab trucks online that look like they're original. The ones that are supposedly 1925 seem like about half and half short vs long running boards, so I'm starting to think this was a more later '25 change. My 'June' truck should probably have the shorter ones then. I'm going to save a pair of long ones in case I change my mind, though, since you can't trust most of the internet.

Who has original 1925 trucks? What running boards do you have? What month was your truck made?

I have a TT C Cab with the engine dating to August 1, 1925 and it has short running boards. I am fairly certain that the engine is original to the truck.
That would make it an early '25, but I think the '24 and '25 TT's were the same for both years. Maybe the running boards were a running change?

Actually confirms that the change to the long 'boot scraper' boards was a late (post August) '25 change.

The Aug. 1925 Parts Books lists the short boards, L and R.

And this nice photo shows good view of the short board with boot scraper upset end flare.

Not correct there, Dan - short boards were interchangeable - it lists 1925 L. & R. which is the "new" style.

Us folks with TT's refer to those as the long boot scraper boards.

I learn something new every day. Never paid attension to the 26 runningboards on my next TT project. Boot scrapers. 23 has short ones. Thanks for all the info.

So it looks like what I'm getting is that the long boards first appeared in the August '25 parts book and started appearing on the trucks at that time or very shortly thereafter. That syncs with the '25's I'm seeing being about half and half (unscientific and small sample size)

My unmolested 25 had the short boards. My Jan 26 built truck has the long ones.

My '25 TT C-Cab Express has the Short Running Boards. The research I did at the Henry Ford Museum Archives etc. all leads me to believe that the long running boards were produced for the '26 - '27 Model Year Trucks. I bet some very late '25 had them as well but Never say Never.

From all of the factory photos I have seen, I believe that the long boot scraper boards were used for closed cabs and short boards were used for C cabs throughout both of their production runs.

Short boards actually have two variations: one to be used with wood blocks and one to be used without. The difference is a small cut out on the inner lip of the board for those without wood blocks. The cut out allows the board to sit down over the mounting bracket.

I'm reasonably certain that Justin is right. Short vs. long running boards was a function of the cab style once the long boards were introduced.
