Guys: I am looking to make some special bushings for piston pins also know as wrist pins. What kind of bronze is best to use? What I found on an other forum talked about a CA954 or C95400. They are same thing. Any input would be nice. How does it machine would be helpful too.
No these can not be store brought bushings. Thanks Dan

Dan it depends on whether you are making the pivot at the rod well or piston well and alloys the rod is made from.

Hope this Helps,

Hank

Would imagine you could use darn near anything from the higher strength bronze alloys... aluminum, silicon, or manganese bronze alloys would probably all perform similar in the application.

Or possibly even an aluminum bushing could work fine. Seems to me the forged pistons are made from a 5xxx series alloy...?

Either way... you won’t be operating anywhere near the design limits of the material in a stock, or even modified, T motor

CA954 will machine like steel. It is very tough. But it is also plenty strong.

CDA954 is aluminum bronze and is probably overkill for anything but the most severe pin bushing application. It would help to know what the piston material is that you need these bushing for. The Ford cast iron pin bushings are probably something close to phosphor bronze.
