Is that a spittoon or ashtray on the dash
The Model T Touring/Pickup in the movie Giant has some sort of receptacle on the dash.
It looks like a spittoon. Or it could be an ashtray. Looks like it swivels to empty it over the side. You can see the top half of it in the closeup, and it looks like it's tilted over in the wide shot.
Does anyone know what it is?

Really not a lot of need to a spittoon in a open car!

Dean was involved with T's more than once. Watch East of Eden for what's probably the best starting/driving instructions for a T ever filmed.
Forget everything you thought you knew.

Jimmy Dean had style ! And one of the very first trendsetter's ..if he did use it for a spitoon he did so to put across to the film crew that everything
on that car leaked including the horn ..

Re: Is that a spittoon or ashtray on the dash
I see no reason it couldn't be used as a spittoon or an ash tray. Items were often multi-tasked in those days before the term came into being. I'm not sure how much saliva and ash it would take to affect the diaphragm (if I may use that word).
When did I do that?

That looks like my truck! It isn’t, but mine is in about the same shape.

Re: Is that a spittoon or ashtray on the dash
I wonder what the percentage of 1926's were that had 30X3 1/2's? There are a lot of them around. I guess a lot of people chose not to go to the new style 21" wheels?
