Hope to be getting ready to assemble an engine soon & I was wondering if & what are you taking off the valve stems prior to installing new valves. For this build I will be using new vendor provided stainless valves. Thanks George

are your lifters adjustable? When I did mine which had non adjustable lifters of all the new valves, I only had to grind one stem to get the clearance. with adjustable lifters i wouldn't think you would have to grind any of the stems. if my thinking is not correct please I welcome the input.

I just did mine with the new stainless valves.

I took off about .100 or so to get room to adjust. I just did it with the grinder in stages measuring as I went. As I recall they were 5.076 and I knocked them down to anywhere from 5.010 to 4.985 give or take. The Harbor Freight digital caliper came in handy.

Careful, those stems get HOT!

If I had to do it again I would buy for the special installation tool and the special thin adjustment wrenches.

Note: You should test the fit before deciding if you need to grind the stems. Out of the box my clearance was around .006 or less, which is why I ground the stems down.
