Three of us are planning a trip with one Model T to the Georgia Mountains from Juli 17 through 25. We are planning on spending 2 days in Thomaston then head to the Clarkesville area passing through Stone Mountain. Are there any ModelTers familiar with any of those areas who could suggest points of interest? Rich 561-262-0393

I live in Cartersville, GA (northwest) but can tell you folks headed up that way usually visit Helen, GA, with its Bavarian-style buildings, and Amicalola Falls State Park. The beginning of the Appalachian Trail, Springer Mountain, may be a lot of work for a Model T but can be accessed by roadway and a parking lot which is a short walk (maybe a mile, been a while since I walked it) to the summit.

Helen is usually the main attraction for folks in that area and is maybe 15-20 miles from Clarkesville... so check it out and see if it might be worth the extra miles to you.

Clarksville is about 12 miles from Currahee Mountain where the Band of Brothers, the rest of the 506th, and several other regiments trained. 3 miles further up the road in Toccoa is the Currahee Military Museum. Their web site states they will not be open until the 25th so you may miss that one. Toccoa Falls is also in the area. There is good trout fishing on Panther Creek. Apple Valley has a good golf course. Lots of other things to do in the area. Just depends on what floats your boat.

Clarksville was also home of Jesse James. Who else on here remembers him? His home was the place to stop in Clarksville back in the day. Dan

I remember him. One of my best friends in high school was his nephew. I remember going to his house one time and seeing all of the cars in the outbuildings. This was about 1974 or 1975. He had recently purchased a brand new Ford pickup that had only been driven about 25 miles. His intent was to store it and not put any more miles on it. I don't know what happened to his cars when he passed away.

I remember that truck too. I had not been there for a while. Jesse says come look at this, opened up one of his many little shed doors and sat that truck. I think it was on the 80’s when I saw it. Still had all the dealer stuff in the windows and miles from dealer to his house.
One thing I liked was the 39 or 40 coupe setting where the porch floor should have been on his front porch.
And the Coke truck that ran to Clarksville. Dan
